Yes, I still think sanity and humanity means typically voting for the Democrats over a MAGA type in general elections. That doesn't mean you can't and shouldn't primary the shit out of the spineless dickwads who won't support that sanity and humanity.

This isn't 'we need one Dem to flip', folks. We have 30 hours of debate and amendments, and then the vote will happen. No more filibuster on this one. Any bests that the Repubs will renege, vote down all amendments, and pass the House version to avoid having the House reopening?

This thread outlines the only possible silver lining for Democrats I can see out of tonight's complete cluster. But don't get me wrong; just because something good may have happened doesn't mean I think that a: it truly will, and b: that the Senate Democrats actually calculated this out.
Folks, we need to have a little Civics #101 chat, because apparently the media no longer seems fit to explain to you whats happening.

From Bovino's deposition: (1) he calls protestors "violent" if they articulate views hostile to ICE, even if no violence is manifested; (2) he instructs his forces to attack and arrest protestors who express "hyperbolic comments," which is to say, criticism of ICE and Bovino.

When I watched the responses to the #nokings protests, something seemed… off to me. Then it hit me – most Americans and commentators think that protests are about shaming the target of the protests into changing their behaviour. “If enough of us show up, he will stop doing (fill-in-the-blank).”

Just a reminder for the non-mathematically inclined: 80 hours a month of working means you have to be doing 20 hours a week. Yes, that means working half-time or more.

A friend helps run a large food bank serving our state. Asked her how things look. For every 1 meal provided by a food bank, SNAP provides 9. They’re looking at a tenfold increase in need within days. There hasn’t been a threat of mass hunger in America like this in living memory. Help if you can 🍽️

I was asked to be on a bi-partisan committee supplying congress with information on food insecurity.
Yes, there are going to be A LOT of people surprised when they see the extent of our fellow citizens who use SNAP (about 40 million, lots of veterans) and WIC (over 6 million) programs.

okay. I've been on food stamps in a couple states now. I've volunteered with multiple food banks, I've helped cook food for unhoused people at open cooking areas, I've run can drives, I've done trunk or treats where we broke a strut on my car from too many cans.

I _really_ suggest people look at their home county, check its current population, and then see how many of them get SNAP benefits. My rural county in TN has 12.6% of its population on SNAP. Another several hundred work as civilians at a nearby government facility and are furloughed. Welp.

Not sure how much "We'll take away the poor's food if you complain about taking away their healthcare" is a winning strategy. Of course, that requires people to point this out clearly in public.

What’s with all the useful idiots spamming out the long careers of Congresscritters in response to #nokings? I mean, 1. Different branch, different powers; 2. One of many, not sole wielders of power; 3. Existence allows multiple problems to exist simultaneously and be addressed simultaneously too.

Looking for recommendations on cheap means to record lectures for flipped classroom and the like? My department is trying to figure out a good platform (free/reasonable) that can be used to record video for podcasts or have voice overlays on displayed screens for slide shows and the like. #edusky

So, #nokings watch; I live in a small (~11,000) town in rural TN, where one of the stores in town is a Trump merch store - just to give you an idea of local leanings. As of 10am, there's 40 protesters out making a good deal of news at our biggest road crossing - and one lonely counterprotester.
