New game just dropped. What was #19 before it was struck from the record?
I have never done (9) (it's anti-social), (13) (Blockbuster never operated in my country), or (20) (those things were *expensive*).

I am teh oldz.

This is excellent.

Also, in case anyone missed it, I literally mention how hard it is to fight on an empty stomach in my bio here. This is what the administration is counting on. Everyone who is not rich, in too much need to argue.
SNAP benefits are currently being held hostage by the Trump administration and their fate now lies with the Supreme Court.

Beneath the legal arguments are real people who simply need food—a former federal worker, a single mother of 4, a disabled man. I spoke to them. Here are their stories:
The voices of SNAP
Recipients have become political pawns. They explained, in their own words, what Trump withholding funds has been like.

This is horrible. None of these people should have anything good happen for them ever again. I hope they go very hungry in their lifetimes. I am disgusted.

Wondering why no one likes your posts anymore, even among your friends? It's because @jay.bsky.team and team have decided to hide a huge amount of content from all of our feeds by default.

Here's how to turn it off.

While I get why this is true during normal operating procedures, the times are not normal. SNAP recipients getting no money have what options? It’s not like they can pay regular price with no funds. I hate the cruelty.
The USDA sent an email to grocery stores telling them they are prohibited from offering special discounts to customers affected by the SNAP funding lapse.
I'm aware of at least 2 stores that had offered struggling customers a discount, then withdrew it after receiving this email

Starting a war with Venezuela while your own citizens starve is a move. A really, really bad move. Is this admin written by Terry Gilliam? Did I miss the memo about volunteering to be on Monty Python the reboot?

This is just so awful. What are kids who started hormones supposed to do? Oh wait! I know this answer. The cruelty is the point.

Marjorie Johnson has passed away and this timeline is crap. She won literally hundreds of state fair ribbons for her baking. May she find a wonderful kitchen to haunt. www.startribune.com/marjorie-joh...

I have been trying to figure out how to say the right thing about the connection between health care costs and SNAP benefits.

Because we refuse to let them make the cost of insurance skyrocket, they are *blackmailing* us by withholding paychecks and food.

When is the general strike?

IQ tests are bullshit. Using them to try to prove superiority? Double bullshit.
Trump: "They have Jasmine Crockett -- a low IQ person. AOC is low IQ. Have her pass the exams I decided to take when I was at Walter Reed. They're cognitive tests. Let AOC go against Trump. Let Jasmine go against Trump. The first couple questions are easy -- a tiger, an elephant, a giraffe ... "

This is one of many points about who uses SNAP. Even working more than full time only goes so far when it’s so far below a living wage.
Whenever people complain about the number of folks relying on food stamps, it is worth reminding them that SNAP is, by too large of a degree, a subsidy for corporations that refuse to pay a living wage and their political allies who reject public policy prescriptions to reduce income inequality.

Anyone know? I drive past it all the time but have no clue about its status.
Curious for folks who know more about this:
For the derelict CVS site in St. Paul. Why can’t the city use eminent domain? Is it that you need a new use/owner/developer locked in? Is it not derelict enough?
Is it just that the process is so demanding it’s worth exhausting every other approach?

Do not let them lie unchecked. Cutting a trillion dollars only makes life harder for millions who rely on Medicaid.
Mike Johnson: "We're fighting for healthcare as well. Not just in word but in deed. We put in the one big beautiful bill, real reforms to Medicaid to make it work better."

(The bill in fact cuts nearly $1 trillion from Medicaid.)

David is one of the new contributing columnists at the Strib. I am very proud of him and excited for his future pieces.
When Trump was elected, I decided I would try to put my column writing energy towards somewhere local. I wanted to write in my communities about stuff that was happening.

Not all plans work out, but this one seems to be so far. I am looking forward to a slightly more formal process.
