2026 Book Thread:
1st book of the year- The Bombshell Manual of Style
It was fun! I've always been a big fan of satirical dives into a specific aesthetic (The Official Preppy Handbook is one of my all time favorites for a reason)
The Bombshell has always been a favorite of mine, a regressive treat
masculinity is a disease I swear

It's super cool to live under a president that is both subject to removal via impeachment and removal via the 25th Amendment

it’s so funny when the media is like “why are libs cutting Trump voters out of their lives? clearly it’s the intolerant left!” when in reality we are just fed up by the dumbest most evil people we know speedrunning the destruction of our country in slavish devotion to the cult of a mad king

it's so funny to read people talking about Fukuyama having read Fukuyama. Like baby girl, liberalisms "final triumph" is only half the thesis here

men suck because when they have eating disorders they make it a nationwide problem.
Meanwhile, when women have eating disorders we pretend we're totally fine even when we're chewing ice cubes at family meals.
Going to be so fr, if you're throwing a tantrum because your latte doesn't have PROTEIN in it you just have an eating disorder

The thing is, I bet I could make good money on prediction markets.
I never will, because I think betting on current events is totally ghoulish and trains us to be desensitized to the world around us

It's good to see that the Trump administration's terminally online white supremacist poster government is starting to break out into the news

Minnesota shows what happens when governing and content creation merge
As President Trump approaches one year back in office, the policies his administration pursues — and how those policies are communicated — have been increasingly shaped by social media.

you know, it's times like this I remember this meme I made shortly after January 6th and hate how prescient I was. There is no plan anymore, just destruction.

How does one even begin to check farmer power? Especially because it is just flat out necessary to AGGRESSIVELY cut farmer water allowances in the American west

Reading the NYT interview of Minneapolis' police chief and oh boy lmao.
Dude is talking about how he's trying to build TRUST in law enforcement while blowing up the trust his community could have in him! He has "empathy" with the ICE officer, he agrees with ICE's presence, he even blames Good! jesus

One thing I've come to believe is that we have reached a point where neutrality for brands is largely impossible. Republicans see "woke" brands as targets, and there is no getting them to accept you again without decimating your liberal clientele. You have to make a choice!
Look at this absolute queen

and this is why "more training!!" reforms fall completely flat.
This man is in BORTAC. He knows he's not supposed to use less lethals as kinetic weapons, and yet he's doing it anyways! Because his level of training isn't the problem, his complete lack of accountability is.
Just hours after Renee Good was shot, one member of Customs and Border Patrol’s elite tactical team on an adjacent street fired a less-lethal weapon five times in less than five minutes, with four shots aimed at the faces of protestors. www.bellingcat.com/news/2026/01...

admittedly I'd be a lot more bullish on dems prospects of achieving meaningful admin pressure in 2026 + reforms in 28' if Schumer wasn't SOMEHOW STILL SENATE MINORITY LEADER
Just got this forwarded. Here are the talking points Schumer's team just emailed out to their allies TODAY - this afternoon.

The words "Minnesota" or "ICE" don't appear anywhere here.

Yeah, I think this is the bit that isn't being understood fully om either side.

Their isnt any coming back from here. Even if we avoid direct conflict here, that trust and unity isnt coming back.

We'll all be poorer for it
It amazes me that so-called "serious folk" in the US are failing to realise that the next two generations of European policymakers are going to be incredibly more inclined towards anti-Americanism than any generation since the interwar era.
