If I had a billion dollars, I’d open up a chain of theaters across the country devoted to only showing low to mid-budget comedies & dramas, so the CONFESS FLETCH & ROOFMANs & BLUE MOONs of the future would always have a place to play on a big screen for a few weeks. You know, how it was for decades!
1. Channing and Kirsten are right, and 2. ROOFMAN is great, and I wish more people had seen it in theaters.
I recently got to spend five minutes talking with Channing Tatum and Kirsten Dunst about the movie ROOFMAN, and I wrote up those five minutes as a print piece because I really needed everyone to know what movie Mr. Tatum was recommending to people in 2022. consequence.net/2025/12/chan...

Russell did a fantastic job (literally) putting these two characters in conversation and pushing them to think through the potential deficits of their own mediums and creators. Loved the chance to edit this piece (which I barely touched during the edit process!)

Far and Away

It’s one of Ron Howard’s most mediocre efforts (that’s saying something) with a lackluster script and totally unremarkable performances, and I’m a sucker for it.

This is the most embarrassing thing I've read today. "Has been sending millennial cinephiles into critical paroxysms" followed by “mumblecore Shakespeare for the TikTok generation.” Generational mad-libs.
In @nytopinion.nytimes.com

The new film “Hamnet” offers up a vision of William Shakespeare as “Marlon Brando in Elizabethan drag,” writes Drew Lichtenberg. While this character may appeal to some, it “played to me like mumblecore Shakespeare, conceived for the TikTok generation.”
Opinion | ‘Hamnet’ Reimagines Shakespeare for the TikTok Generation
Our love of his plays have led to a centuries-long fascination with the writer. So why does each new fictional iteration get his life so wrong?
