I've been quiet because I'm struggling--and that's not quite the damning thing I tell myself it is. I have set myself a challenge, that's all.

More on this via the link. (Also, on my upcoming writing course on Gothic writing techniques...)

Found OGA on LibGen, as well as IN SOMNIO, in which my story "After the Apples" appears. I hate that my words trained AI, w/o ANY compensation I might add.

I'm not giving up my voice so a computer can speak over me.

It's NOT artificial intelligence. It's OUR intelligence & we're being robbed.

Timely: this is why I go to Rocky Horror.
I love when characters in movies do what I yell at them.

If you wondered what this kinky-Victorian-Gothic author likes to do in her spare time, it’s this: go to Rocky Horror in my new country as a complete unknown, and nail the call-backs so hard that I get pulled up at the end to take a bow. (Also I got a gift basket!) Thanks, Sugar Club Dublin!

Not only do I rec this book (do you like spooky hotels? DO YOU?)... I also think this countdown with snippets is brilliant for getting a taste of Dotson's writing.

Check it out! And pre-order!
Aside from being a fun way to keep track, for some reason counting it this way makes it feel, to me, less alarmingly close than "three months, one week, and three days" does.

Pre-order now! read.macmillan.com/lp/the-cut-9...

You gimme a wordy assignment, I do it. 💛
During yesterday’s livestream we asked viewers to suggest non-binary variations on the trend of overtly gendered private spaces a la “man cave” or “she shed”, and @brianaunamcguckin.bsky.social has slayed us with “hidea-they” 🏆

Hi, I'm Briana, my work in French is excellent--which is shocking, because I'm out sick so very often.

Hi, I'm Michelle, and I'm clearly quite intelligent but very outspoken and need to quit reading all the time.

The best beginning to my voice-over career, in service to the best perfume oil people, for feminism, dammit:
Dead Blonde, voiced by @brianaunamcguckin.bsky.social

The scent: a wilting corsage of tea roses and white roses, bearing forensic traces of honeyed lip gloss and coconut oil suntan lotion.

Had an idea for a writing workshop at 3am (as one does) so #writers:

Ex’s of absolute advice you’ve heard? I have:

Prologues=bad.
Show, don’t tell.
Always use “said,” no adverbs
Dreams: no one cares.
Don’t write in 2nd person.

What advice makes YOUR heart go: “Is that a challenge?”
