ep. 1: multiple characters said a theatre instructor would be 'cancelled' for abusing his power. I looked past it, though I'd have preferred 'fired & blacklisted.'
ep. 5: a gen Z worker uses 'un-alived' to describe an actual murder in face-to-face conversation. No more. Natural adult speech, please

“experiential themes were identified: feeling paralyzed (the past weighs heavy; …); powerlessness (lack of agency; systemic support failures); negative perceptions (feeling misunderstood; fear of judgment; …); and recognizing our needs”

I try not to be doomerist about this, but this is a whole new level of Things Are Bad we are approaching and I need my people to start having contingency plans and a cash envelope in the bedside draw for emergencies

It’s cute that networks are making light, quirky copaganda. The police are so damn incompetent that a former criminal attorney can outdo them with basic research & conversation skills. That’s more believable than the idea of pursuing ‘truth’ by working alongside police & prosecutors

With the resurgence of loud, old-school eugenics, autistic people are increasingly being maligned & targeted. It’s not new, though. Years ago, my psychiatrist earnestly offered to keep my diagnosis unofficial so it wouldn’t affect my ability to work & drive. So, this shit means something to me.

Idk if Hudson Williams could capture Shane in such a moving & loveable way if he didn’t already understand & love someone with autism. Shane is so complete. His particularities & rigidity aren’t played for laughs. He doesn’t float above the need for social acceptance. He cares deeply.

In media, autism usually shows up in the aloof, misanthropic genius or someone whose high support needs are a burden, & an invitation for abuse. Rarely is the depiction about desiring connection, and how they fail, & are failed, in that pursuit. Rarely is it done with so much love.

I appreciate the somewhat long gaps of quiet meandering. There world is painfully empty

Manousos is really fighting for his life trying to reach Carol & she’s playing games. I get it, but it’s so annoying how US-centric everything needs to be. Everyone knew that man was in Paraguay, including Carol. Go save humanity from there. Where your opps haven’t yet fled

“You can’t give me anything because all you have is stolen.” Manousos didn’t eat dog food and drive for 50 years to capitulate in the forest. I would’ve.

Now, if Carol was speaking to regular service workers like that, it’d be a problem

The saviour complex & faux collectivism is killing me. The problem is the root of these impossible, and unnecessary, choices.
