On this date in 1895, Gustav Mahler's 2nd Symphony was premiered by the Philharmonic. Unlike many Mahler premieres, this one was highly-successful. His disciple Bruno Walter would later maintain that "this concert marked the beginning of Mahler's public career as a composer."

40 years ago today, Amazing Stories premiered on NBC. Created by Steven Spielberg, it lasted just two magical seasons and had 45 episodes. I still re-watch several episodes every year.
