Pretty thrilled to announce that my book will be published on January 15! It's called David Bowie and the Search for Life, Death and God. It’s published by @bloomsburybooksuk.bsky.social and tells the story of Bowie's spiritual explorations - and why they were fundamental to his work
Americans and insomniacs in Britain and Europe: you can hear me being interviewed by the excellent @johnfugelsang.bsky.social about my book tonight at 9.20pm EST (that's 2.20am GMT) on SiriusXM Progress 127. It'll be on his podcast tomorrow too. Worth listening to for him as much as me

Lazarus was one of Bowie's most extraordinary and important works. I've done my best to do justice to it in my book, thanks in large part to a wonderful conversation I had with Ivo van Hove. Bowie's last appearance came on the night his dream became reality; that's quite something.
LAZARUS OPENED TEN YEARS AGO TODAY

“By the time I got to New York...”

Public performances of Lazarus began ten years ago this evening at New York Theatre Workshop.

David Bowie attended the opening night, and it was to be his final public appearance.

A 1. Outside's highlight.
Written by Bowie and @reevesgabrels.bsky.social.
A guest role for @armstrongk.bsky.social on guitar and supposedly Neil Conti on drums.
Groovy.

It's difficult you see.

I probably enjoyed writing about The Next Day more than any other Bowie album. A few of those bloat tracks turn out to be pretty fascinating, and there's vastly more to the album than is immediately apparent. But this opinion is also true
The Next Day is Bowie's greatest missed opportunity. There's a stunning 10 track album in there, but those few extra bloat tracks just bring it down.

I'd love to read a piece about what people thought of the Beatles in the 70s/80s/early 90s. Seem to remember a lot of people not being very interested in them really - they seem much bigger now than they were then
Good morning! I took the opportunity of the BEATLES ANTHOLOGY's streaming debut to write about THE COMPLEAT BEATLES, the (imho) far superior Fab Four doc, and why, because of the ANTHOLOGY, it's so hard to see.

I’m delighted and honoured to be a part of this event at @britishlibrary.bsky.social on Saturday 17th January. A day dedicated to David Bowie, with live music and very special guests. I’ll be in conversation with David’s producer and friend, the legendary Tony Visconti.

I get to write about shows in Aylesbury every week. It still punches above its weight, and the Friars name lives on (obviously v significant to Bowie too). These places deserve our support

Hot DAM! etc

Another cracking interview, this time with the architect of the funk and force that powered Bowie's music from 1975 to 1980. Rare blend of technical brilliance, musical humility and knowing exactly how good he is. Almost as good to hear him talk as it is to hear him play
💥 OUT NOW! As Carlos Alomar reunites with George Murray for the DAM Trilogy tour this Fall, we meet to talk Bowie, soul, the pocket, the groove and just how Carlos, Dennis and George fuelled Bowie's musical evolutions between '75 - '80. Dig in and dig! 💥
