Indian censor board: remove caste references from a historical film about anti-caste reformers.

This country is strangling what's left of artistic/creative freedom in this country with the same saffron shawl it swaddles the upper castes with.

Amnesty have published a meaty 296 page report in which the organization determines that Israel's campaign in Gaza amounts to genocide.

It's the first human rights organization to issue the determination, and comes after a UN report last month accused Israel of actions "consistent with genocide."
Amnesty International concludes Israel is committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza
Amnesty International’s research has found sufficient basis to conclude that Israel has committed and is continuing to commit genocide against Palestinians in the occupied Gaza Strip.

Blatant censorship from the government of India as it demands that a magazine take down a story on the torture of civilians by the Indian Army in Jammu and Kashmir. The state will block the article in 24 hrs. The full version is paywalled for subscribers, here is a portion of the article:

Chris Priest is dead. We've known each other since 1984. He was a famous author and I was a 23 year old nobody and he sat next to me in a pub and chatted and was lovely. He wrote some amazing books. www.ninaallan.co.uk?p=6855

I’m going to look past the ugly racist responses I’ve seen to some of this show’s good reviews and just tell you it’s really good and fun, and it is connected to the movie on what’s practically a technicality. It’s wholly original. www.npr.org/2024/02/01/1...

For fuck sake, writers, STOP USING AI ART. Stop using it on your book covers, stop using it in your book promos, stop using it to show what your OCs look like, stop using it as "inspiration," STOP USING IT. You want your artform respected, respect other artforms. There is no ethical use. None.

Worldbuilding can be a beautiful thing. But the pervasive belief that all SFF/magical realist/fabulist/surrealist worlds are required to adhere to a specific form of "logical" worldbuilding has been really damaging.
