Even the scars couldn’t hide the fact that his face was striking, arresting in a way that made half of me want to freeze in place while the other half ran in terror. He looked like a warlord or brigand. He looked dangerous. The corner of his mouth pulled up into a sneer, and he waved at his scarred cheek. “Shall I wait until you’re finished staring?” I hadn’t been staring at his scars, but telling him he looked like a bandit wasn’t much better.
