Zachidniak: There's an appendix w/ cuts for transit & it mentions increasing fares & you mentioned your benefits?
McKenzie: There are people who can't afford an increase to this service. There are people who'll have to take fares out of their groceries. #yqrcc

McKenzie: You're going to have to ask the province for money & we're not allowed to speak on it. #yqrcc

McKenzie says that the paratransit company has brought a bus on that has a ramp instead of lift. He says city isn't inclusive b/c users of paratransit don't get to speak on the contract that the city awards. #yqrcc

A friend of the late Catherine Verral, perhaps?
Back from break. Now starting delegations on the city's other budgets. First speaker is Jamie McKenzie who's been advocating for transit in Regina for 27 years. #yqrcc

Zachidniak: Where if you think the RPS budget is leanest it can be, by saying you've looked at it and say it's the leanest it can be we know that. But if the board comes back & looks at it and finds efficiencies that's good. We're asking all our depts to do this work. #yqrcc

Turnbull points out how everytime we get a new uniformed officer, have to take on the cost of supporting that officer. (notably w/ civilian support staff) #yqrcc

So because he thinks it's good, we should just rubber stamp? No, this scrutiny is valid. If anything, he should say less in this meeting bc he was involved with it already.

That is definitely the answer that indicates they expected the usual rubber stamp approval of their ask and did not expect scrutiny or questions. No one paying attention should be surprised the budget is tight again. #rps #yqrcc

Bezo: Why the FTE increase. This is a status quo budget but suddenly everyone is asking for more people?
Davies: We didn't receive any direction that this was a status quo budget. We built it on what need. The staffing request is largely civilian professionals #yqrcc

Great 👍. The only thing is I am tired is RPS patting itself on the back. What annoyed me the most was "we stopped 123K cyber attacks". Almost every org faces it (numbers may wary). City doesn't even have a security guy (no funds allotted to hire one). And, FOI staffing. City has maybe 1 or 2.

Probably the people who are mad police can't get there the second they call. I rarely see police in my neighbourhood unless they are on their way home.

It is over one hour behind, just send back the police budget and move forward. Having an on site therapist & physio therapist that they can get into immediately (as they aren’t serving anyone else) isn’t helping their request for more funding.
