It’s not so much that Trump & co don’t think slavery was important, they want to remove this history precisely *because* of how important it was. They don’t want people to learn about slavery because then people would understand how it continues to shape the landscape of inequality in America today.
Signs about the history of slavery in the U.S. and the 9 people George Washington enslaved are being removed right now at the President’s House Site in Philadelphia, across from Independence Hall, months after the Trump administration threatend to do so.

How far we have not come in 250 years.

During the Bicentennial Celebration at Independence Hall on July 4, 1976, President Gerald Ford sat symbolically behind Marian Anderson as she read the text of the Declaration aloud. On this 250th anniversary, the President is ordering factual information about slavery to be removed from that site.

In death, Rob Reiner, an accomplished actor and filmmaker and a passionate progressive advocate, landed one last blow on Donald Trump and showed us how small and indecent a man the president is.
Rob Reiner was a mensch. In death, he showed us Trump’s a schmuck.
The president's remarks about the murder of the filmmaker and his wife cast Trump as petty and callous.

The White House has been caught.

The administration inserted a photo of Bill Clinton, Michael Jackson, and Diana Ross into the Epstein files and falsely implied it showed them with victims.

In reality, it’s a publicly available fundraiser photo featuring Jackson and Ross’s own children.

With millions at risk of losing SNAP in the coming days, a reminder: hunger doesn't happen in isolation. When food assistance disappears, families use rent money to eat. Then come evictions and homelessness.

Housing, food, healthcare—it's all connected. Cut one thread and the whole thing unravels.

FWIW it’s the illusion of control. When you’re driving you feel like you have power to escape a dangerous situation. On a train you’re trapped with nowhere to run.

The train is obviously safer than driving but particularly for those socialized in American individualism it can feel scarier
