In the earliest universities, this was a feature. Before they had permanent physical spaces, their ability to pick up & move to another town was their best weapon against price hikes. The current administration wants to destroy an ideological opponent, but is too daft to see the economic fallout.
It's important to note here that we're not just talking about faculty & university staff. 100s of U.S. colleges are in towns or small cities where they form the major industry & lifeblood of the community. Loss of students -> loss of rent $, restaurant $, bars, bookstores, gaming stores...
The US could see a 30-40% decline in new international student enrollment, resulting in nearly $7 billion in lost revenue and more than 60,000 fewer American jobs. https://www.nafsa.org/fall-2025-international-student-enrollment-outlook-and-economic-impact

This was probably my first ever comic, period. A comic store opened in our tiny town when I was about 10 years old. Pulled this issue from the bargain bin based solely on the cover being cool and the price being right.

I'm a bit late to the game on this one, but I am enjoying the hell out of Birthright by @joshuawilliamson.bsky.social and Andrei Bressan. I picked up a TPB at Ollie's Discount Warehouse a couple weeks back, and got sucked right in. I'm four volumes in now, and it just keeps getting better.

Newest acquisition arrived yesterday! Couldn’t pass it up at the price it sold for, plus, this is the first piece I picked up that includes Niels the bouncing cat!

🧵 Today’s lesson: Diving into Digital Humanities

This project (funded with the help of NEH) allowed researchers to digitize and study 700 playbills from the 1800s from one of the nation’s oldest theaters in Philadelphia. Sounds super cool, right? That’s because it IS! 1/3

The total annual budget for the NEH (National Endowment for the Humanities) for 2025 was $201 million dollars.

That pays for things like:

-Institutes, workshops, and professional development for school teachers.

-It pays for grants to help fund museums, historical sites, and libraries.

Happy day of birth! The first issue to come to mind was this one. I wasn't really into the X-Men at the time (a little bit of New Mutants only). I picked this up for some reason, and couldn't put it down. Colossus was relentless and there was a sense of danger through the whole issue. Loved it.

I'll start things off. I collect mostly production art (comic book art and theater costume designs). I love the idea of art as part of the process of creating something. I currently only own two original costume design sketches, both from shows at the Stratford (Ontario) Shakespeare Festival.
I saw this great convo the other day, and it gave me an idea. In the interests of pushing back on the constant negativity, let's share our art collections, describe what we like and why we like it, and throw some love towards the artists who created the pieces that we love. #ArtCollectionApril

I honestly don't think I've seen this before. A job posting (at Binghamton U) that openly states that they have an internal candidate.

@jackkirbymuseum.bsky.social. Do you know if the Kirby Museum has ever made/sold prints of the costume designs the King made for Julius Caesar way back when? As a comic nerd who grew up to be a Shakespeare professor, that is one of my all time favorite crossover stories.

I somehow keep getting mix ups on my Free Agents pull. At first, I was missing issue 4 (I had 1-3 and 5). Now I'm missing issue 6 (I have 1-5 and 7). Even with all the confusion, I've really been enjoying this series by @fabiannicieza.bsky.social, Kurt Busiek, and Stephen Mooney.

I'm really really trying to like the anime series, Dr. Stone. The premise is great, but I just can't get into it. Anyone else have a similar reaction?

For those who delight in such things, I put my dog in a holiday sweater. If you never hear from me again, that likely means the dog succeeded in gaining her vengeance for this indignity (adorable though said indignity was).

New comics to read, new thread I'll update as I make my way through it:

Re-bagging/boarding the collection, and came across this gem. Picked it up and got it signed at a Baltimore Comic convention, must have been 20 some odd years ago. To date, @davidgallaher.bsky.social is still the only member of the old Crashpad mailing list that I've met in person.
