I've been generally heartened by mastodon's recent improvements and am curious to see where the project goes now that Rochko is stepping down: here's hoping that maybe his successor can manage to be a little less psychotically thin-skinned when people point out obvious design issues.

This fucking kills me, because it was a very deliberate decision on Google’s part to not do layoffs during the GFC, the amount of employee loyalty it bought them was incalculable and THAT WORKED OUT PRETTY WELL FOR THE SHAREHOLDERS.

Of the many, many gobsmacking aspects of the NTSB report on the OceanGate Titan's implosion, it was this relatively straightforward one that made my entire head explode like the guy in Scanners.
They left it in a parking lot. Outside. Through an entire winter.
