Definitely not the most pressing thing state wide, but we've got another factory fire in the West. Avoid the smoke originating in Derrimut, probably currently heading Laverton way, could be heading more westward this arvo though.

Not only is there a wonderful new shared bike path that takes you right to the door of Hop Nation. They're offering free beer to celebrate!

Saw what seemed like grandparents taking 3 grandkids on the veloway today. Don't think I've ever seen that on Footscray rd path. Hope things like that continue.

There's a new BMX bike park under the veloway/freeway in docklands now. 4 tracks across 2 road separated areas (pedestrian lights crossing). Already seeing use from a kid on a balance bike.

Weird kind of opening if you ask me. Fed trail extension is open, just not the party under the Westgate connecting to hall St

Federation Trail extension including a new bridge over Williamstown Rd opens tomorrow. This completes the Federation trail through to Hyde st. From here it joins up with Bay Trail W. It will also join a new path under the West Gate Freeway, linking the Stony creek trail to Hall St in Spotswood.
December 12, 2025 at 11:47 PM
As we understand it, this should include the rest of the shared user paths (ie fed trail and route to spotswood) being open too! Still waiting for confirmation.

Anyone ridden the federation trail lately? Maybe @misguidedjenni.bsky.social ? Still a bath at the ring road?

The veloway "bike super highway" is open! There's an elevated 2.5km dedicated cycle path straight to the edge of Footscray. Unfortunately if you want to head to the center of Footscray from there suddenly it's more like this.

The veloway was opened today. BikeWest will continue to push to get safe ways to reach it and other day to day trips in the inner west.

With a new mayor who spoke to active transport as a priorit and state election coming up, it feels like we could be on the cusp of some real advances. It would be great to signal that to council staff via www.yourcityyourvoice.com.au/budget26-27 if you're either a resident or visitor to Maribyrnong

You should build bike lanes for people who are not currently biking and build housing for people who don't currently live in your neighborhood.

Great @yarrabike.bsky.social radio episode on @3crmelbourne.bsky.social. Shows how important the Streets People Love campaign is. Pushing for livable streets that include bike infrastructure is going to get more general support than solely pushing bikes. Also probably gets more pleasant bike routes.

Seems like someone might have found their own detour for the footscray rd SUP closure last night.

This is an awesome report, full of evidence and actionable recommendations to help kids walk to school. We urge Councillors to read it, and follow its recommendations, such as implementing modal filters to reduce the volume and speed of motor vehicle traffic in the neighbourhoods around schools.

With the rainbow bridge now open, we Westies can get closer than ever to the Queen Vic market, but the final 500m is challenging and bike parking is miserable.

Will the government fix the Ashley Street underpass before adding more housing, or will they continue to repeat the same mistakes over and over again in the West? www.theage.com.au/national/vic...
High-rises coming to the west but this needs to be fixed first
Residents say more investment is needed in West Footscray, Middle Footscray and Tottenham if they are to be activity centres.
