I am actually at the point where I get to pick something new to read! I just finished Lolita by Nabokov though and the ending line stole my breath from me. As for what's next, I'm considering starting Beware of Pity, or War & War. I definitely want to start A Confederacy of Dunces. So much to read

Good evening. I have five ongoing. Stuart M. Kaminsky's A Fine Red Rain, Hilary Mantel's Wolf Hall, Bryan Talbot's Grandville graphic novel (just started), and nearing the end of Émile Zola's La Débâcle, and on-and-off reading short stories from the anthology The End of the World As We Know It.

Agent Sonya didn't work for me so now I'm happily and greedily tearing through a pile of @catswrites.bsky.social novels that suddenly landed on my Libby account before having to start House of Mirrors (by Erin Kelly) for the other reading group 😂 Currently: The Soldier's Scoundrel 🔥💖

I went along to the launch of Bryan Talbot's prequel to his Grandville graphic novels last week, so am reading The Casebook Of Stamford Hawksmoor; a politcal thriler set in the decolonisation of a French-ruled Britain.

I've just finished "The Rose Field" by Philip Pullman, and I was very disappointed.
The first 90% is compelling but then the ending is crammed into the last dozen pages, and it feels horribly rushed. And actually it doesn't really end as many of the key plot areas throughout just get left hanging...

Really nice, it felt a bit lighter then my usual gnocchi, and the pesto was just right

Just finished reading @csittenfeld.bsky.social American Wife (which I enjoyed, but also had to shout at - the husband character mainly) The novel “Rodham” is still my favourite by this author.

Happy Monday!
I'm #Reading The Ferryman and His Wife by Frode Grytten, translated by Alison McCullough.
It's about a ferryman who knows it's his last day alive and as he runs his last route, he's accompanied by ghosts as he thinks back on the people and moments in his life.

Smiley’s People 🕵️♂️
Now reading - Smiley’s People (1979), which feels very…autumnal? Secret meetings in the rain etc. Spies just aren’t a summer thing - the war is cold after all, and don’t forget all those Russian fur hats
My 9th Le Carre - still a few other big ones to go
Will post observations here 🧵
