Writer. Canadian. May I be a star in the dark time. She/her. My opinions & views are mine alone. Am guaranteed AI-free.
At least she wasn't hostile about it. Unlike the person who, when I was talking about the movie The Lure, said the film copied JKR's scary mermaids. When I gently explained JKR didn't invent many things in her books, this person lost her mind. Said I was a hater. I told her to read other books.

As I say at the top, the most useful message is that AI products cannot promise guardrails work because by definition, unless the internals of the system stop being the type of LLMs used, you need a human between toy and child/user. Defeating the point 100% of course!

Every time I'm subjected to AI hype, I remember my experience using AI in a course on writing with AI, and I feel like I'm losing my mind.

Part of it is that a lot of folks need to rethink what protest means right now. It hurts us that people have a very narrow, often purely symbolic notion of what protest means. Mass marches are good, but we need so much more. We need more values-driven, direct material intervention.

Attempts to thwart ICE are absolutely acts of protest—they are actions with a material objective that make a coherent political statement, which sets them apart from many protests, I know. But they are acts of protest, plain and simple.
