Extraordinary courage from Ahmed al Ahmed, a Muslim, 43-year-old father of two, who bravely risked his life to save his neighbors celebrating Hanukkah.

Praying for his full & speedy recovery.

And so deeply inspired by his example.

This estate sale really needs some theater kids running the show. Are we lining up? Did they call numbers? Nobody knows, because nobody can fucking project.

It’s my birthday! I have made it to 49. (My child said “it’s a square birthday!”)

Today is for frolics and pie (I don’t care for cake) and tomorrow a bar crawl, with less drunken revelries extending into next week

I am enjoying a lot of things about Pluribus. The sheer amount of fun Samba Schutte is having is the top of the list.

No one before Sam successfully raised a child, which is why the human species went extinct in Mesopotamia. Seriously, the best way to read this is that countless billions of humans did just fine but Sam is not as competent and self-reliant as them, and that's what AI wants us to be: dependent.
Jimmy Fallon: "And do you use ChatGPT when raising your baby?"

Sam Altman: "I cannot imagine figuring out how to raise a newborn without ChatGPT."

For this month’s @outsidemag.bsky.social column, I took a rat taxidermy class, and it was… surprisingly sweet? As the teacher said, “We’re reclaiming what’s beautiful and interesting about the things we’ve been told are bad or gross.”

I love my rat. His name is Meatball.

since we're doing USPS discourse again, a reminder of what Dems should be saying
"the USPS is a miracle. it's in the constitution. for the price of a single stamp you can send a letter across the country, from Hawaii to Maine. Trump is trying to take that away from you. He's attacking Christmas cards and wedding invitations. It's un-American and it has to stop."

the law is fickle, and money is powerful, but the good news is that transphobes cannot force you to be nice to them. so don't be
Note how these awful people are getting exactly the exclusions of children that they demanded and *that still isn’t enough for them*: they demand everyone be delighted about it and kiss their arses for being brilliant.

In the seven months we’ve been in this house all our books have been in boxes in the living room. Schuyler’s were in storage for three years before that. Today our giant Amish-made bookcases finally arrived, and I have unpacked and cataloged and merged almost everything.

Goodbye, Stoppard. Your monologue on the fallibility of the transmission of texts has been scratched into my soul since I first fell in love with The Invention of Love a dozen years ago.

As has the counterpoint: “We catch our breath at the places where the breath was always caught.”

We’ve been rockhounding the last couple of years without the tools to actually cut and polish the rocks. We discovered on the last visit to my parents that my dad actually has a full setup, so we brought up our buckets for Thanksgiving and started cutting.

• my chicken coop (furious)
