Though I guessed the twist very early this is a classic.
Very much a spiritual sequel to TV ep #1.10 "Nightmare" (02-Dec-63).
Robert Patrick and Nicole de Boer in a two hander.
The aliens design, prison design and direction were top level.

Those old #DoctorWho eps will definitely get you through those long hours of shipping in space. I think he is midway through "The Monster of Peladon" which would give anyone an out of body experience to be fair.

But then later I found a different TV ep in the wild that nobody thinks exists but does!!

This one is a bit routine now. I guess the perp will pull a gun and it'll be pew-pew time before the wrap up.

I can't find the pdf alas but it seems Ben Alexander is getting noticed as the article seems like it focused on him

The script has it as "mugg books". I think it should be "mug books"?
Ok I like that the case has morphed into a forgery investigation more so than a standard hit and run investigation.

In one of the oddest commercial decisions imaginable Novel #3 gets adapted in three separate CDs by Big Finish. Why Big Finish, why?
Saying that I can see the three CDs all being neatly different to each other to match the novel.
Review soon.

The calendar on the wall in City Hall says March but this story is taking place in July!
Again this strip story is a cannabilised radio ep but again determining which radio ep would take me too long to work out!

Start of the 15th strip story.
Traffic Bureau - Hit and Run unit.
I'm not sure what that thing is the cop found? Is it an ID card of some description?
I like this to think this is this that same beat cop turned sleuth from the recent TV ep!!

1950s rabbit holes:
Dagmar- blonde TV star who came to fame in 1950, was a bit dumb. Marilyn Monroe stole her shtick?
Old Smokey- there are several. Nickname of the electric chair but also a mountain in Appalachia.
Cellophane- invented long before in the 1910s!

The strip wraps up. It's not clear who got the better of the shoot out. There wasn't shoot out from memory in the equivalent radio ep but I let the strip have its action bits as it is a requirement of the format.
End of strip story #14.

The firsty lady intervewed in the cop shop was quite something!! So I looked her up and it's Carolyn Jones who 11 years later would star as Morticia Adams in "The Adams Family".

Final issue.
For me this comic neglected Rachel throughout so even in the finale when she escapes she is still not liberated. Bryant's novel had her enjoying the new world.
Garth is done excellently which was not the case in the TV pilot.

Devon learns the history. This is better on TV as in this comic it takes up an entire issue. The tech and look of it is different from TV obviously and it's great to see a newly imagined version.
No Rachel in this is very disappointing.

#2 is a big change up from #1. Here Devon goes inside the ship and ain't in Kansas no more. The magic of the TV pilot, the novel and this comic are purely those first scenes where the scale of infinity hits Devon. Good art here too.

This 4 part comic series adapts Harlan Ellison's original script as opposed to the edited version used for the pilot TV ep. Hence it is very similar to Edward Bryant's Novel #2 above. Saying that it doesn't show Devon's introspective side.

I was going to keep this book purely to read each. TV episode breakdown in the unlikely event I ever rewatch "The Starlost". But this paragraph in the ep #1.01 breakdown is utter lunacy so I binned the book.

How is it even possible the author is unaware of the BBC co-production with the American ABC network of the sci-fi TV series "Moonbase 3" which was made and aired THE SAME YEAR as "The Starlost"!?!?

Here the author seems to think folk watching in 1973 wouldn't have seen the same resolution we have today. That is rookie error stuff. 1973 TV sets had perfect pictures and receptions would have been as pristine as the eps are to us today.

Ignore the moronic dross about Canadian identity there is good detail albeit with zero insight.
Has the author even watched #DoctorWho? The Mind of Evil is not any kind example of the primitive meeting the advanced. How is the author so dumb?

Ok I don't normally do making-of books but this fan published book published 50 years later was irresistible.
Note: As it's a fan book there is a 50% chance I chuck this in the bin after 20 pages I suspect!

This is a novelisation of Harlan Ellison's pilot TV ep script by sci-fi writer Edward Bryant.
But far more importantly contains a bonus chapter at the end where Harlan Ellison explains what went wrong with the TV show!!!! 🔪🔪🔪🔪
Review tomorrow.

An incredible novel.
Ben Bova so hacked off by his experience as scientific consultant on the calamity that was "The Starlost" writes a dark comedy about the disastrous production of a Canadian sci-fi TV series.
OMG Harlan Ellison's sleeve notes!!
