Is there a word in German for the joy and pleasure that one experiences as a result of someone else's misfortune and humiliation? 🤔

Went on a guided tour yesterday with @berlintourguide.bsky.social
and loved seeing a side of Berlin that was just a bit different from the usual tours. Ryan’s expert knowledge and enthusiasm for the city, helped illustrate how different West Berlin was during the years of the Wall

Little excerpts from my interview with George Nebieridze about his zine 'Powertool' which explores Berlin's feminist noise-punk scene.

Go buy the zine right now--->

On this day in 1921, Talaat Pasha, one of the key figures behind the Armenian genocide, was murdered on the streets of Berlin by Soghomon Tehlirian.

The idea, part of "Operation Nemesis" was not just to take revenge, but to bring global attention to the genocide.

The Brutalist is a huge disappointment. It tries so hard to be profound but the director just doesn't have the chops.

It also *MILD SPOILER ALERT* indulges in the vaguely antisemitic fallacy that the only place that Jews can be safe and should therefore exist is Israel.

Good to see:
1. The rise of the BSW stalling somewhat

2. the Linke finally being somewhat relevant again
Sarah Wagenknecht's socially conservative, anti-migration, anti-West left wing party (BSW) has also stalled out and the Linke is reviving (possibly because the Wagenkecht faction is now gone making it more palatable and possibly because the new Left co-leader forcefully speaking against Merz).
