If I had a nickel for every time a male character is introduced and stares at Ellie's legs, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it is weird that one of them is only 11 years old.

To be fair this is only the second time she's been objectified in the book. And it's a book from the 90s written by a man? So I guess I should lower my expectations down to hell?

I think it's important to keep in mind that (1) all of these people are rich and (2) sex work is legal and regulated in some nations. If this were about sex, any one of those people could have booked a lovely vacation in Amsterdam and quietly enjoyed themselves.
