This is a thread worth reading in general, but I wanted to explicitly pull out this idea. A lot of indie TTRPG enjoyers care about, and really want, beautiful, well-made, delightful books, in the same way art history nerds do. Sure, the book is not the game, but also the game is not the book.
Specifically, we like to assume that the reasons the market wants the shiny books is because people ate vapid or shallow or don’t understand.
That’s bullshit, and it’s bullshit that’s part of the problem.

As I watch the desperate posts of talented, hardworking people losing their homes, begging for help to feed their kids, trying frantically to catch any work… I can’t help but feel that those who steered our industry into this storm need to face similar consequences to the Icelandic bankers of 2008.

Played Exalted 3e again last night and I was reminded just how much I love the Intimacy system from that game.
Very much one of those systems which I think should be in every game in some way or another.
