Inspired by #buildinpublic, I’ve been wondering—should there be a #marketinginpublic community too?

Marketing experiments and learnings often drive more impact than the build itself, but they can get lost in the dev-focused #buildinpublic noise.

Anyone agree?
After great feedback from @lauraroeder.bsky.social & others, I've refined our headline/strap-line. The old one lacked meaning, and though we debated referencing offline events, data shows most customers use us for online events. New version leans into that focus. Thoughts?

Today’s read 📚

Just finished a general book on positioning/messaging—it was solid but not tailored. This one? Laser-focused on B2B SaaS, and wow, the difference is huge.

Turns out, positioning matters in books too. Funny that. 😉

Realising that we need more video on the heysummit.com landing page—perfect for showcasing solutions to pain points and solidifying benefits.

Just drafted a new section focusing on 5 core benefits to help tell the story visually.

Revamping the HeySummit landing page to reflect fresh positioning and messaging.

Swapping out the old generic headline (left image) for something clearer, more specific, and (fingers crossed) more compelling (right image).

Feels like I'm on the right track. Thoughts?

A somewhat annoying day today - started re-working the HeySummit landing page with the improved copy / positioning I’ve been working on.

But in doing this, it created a bunch of new dev work. Not a load but enough that it slowed momentum down a little.

Revitalizing HeySummit’s marketing starts with a solid elevator pitch. Inspired by Allan Dib’s “1-Page Marketing Plan,” I’m trying:

“You know how [problem]? Well, we [solution]. In fact, [proof].”

Simple, clear, and effective. Let’s see how this evolves.

Here's how I'm going to approach defining our target audience:

1️⃣ List paying customers (ignore low-value ones)
2️⃣ Scrape their sites for homepage title, description & content
3️⃣ Use AI to categorise industries/markets
4️⃣ Output to CSV and analyse to spot patterns

I made a simple GPT to craft impactful Bluesky posts from drafts/outlines—sticking to the 300-character limit. Check it out if you need help condensing longer posts:

I don’t use it often, but it’s handy for trimming wordy posts!

Time to get to work! Swatting up on marketing 101 and defining your audience.

I’ve been running HeySummit for coming up to 7 years now and I’m ashamed to say that we’ve never truly had a handle on our ideal customer. That starts to change today.

@jay.bsky.team hey Jay. Amazing experience so far - kudos!

One frustrating issue though is that when refreshing my following feed, i loose my positioning (I’m just taken to the top of the feed). Are there any plans to handle proper scroll anchoring so that my place in the feed is maintained?

Ok I’ve created a new Bluesky feed that collects all #MarketingInPublic posts

Add it to your profile and start tagging your growth and marketing posts with #marketinginpublic to be included.
