(This side is kinda confronting, so just some crops shown here.)

The amazing Alex Casey at the @thespinoff.bsky.social writes with such eloquence and I really couldn't say it better myself. If you have friends with deep pockets, or if you have any spare dollars to help us limp on, while we poke at people behind the scenes. thespinoff.co.nz/society/28-0...
Feminist self-defence network in fight for survival
With government funding drying up and their last staff member forced to resign, the future of Aotearoa's only nationwide self-defence network hangs in the balance.

Anyone remember West Coast rainforest 30 years ago?
These are from Charleston, near Westport, where I'd spent a day in the rainforest with peops protesting the logging to make furniture and other products from the Rimu.

Shocking that we still don't have wastewater care sorted in Tāmaki Makaurau.

Pix: #art #archive #installation of Oamaru foreshore, 1996.

At the time, raw sewerage was still being discharged onto the foreshore - with a treatment plant (since complete) in the planning stage with the local council.

Another from my art school archives - from 1996, but not much has changed, apart from the production methods (we used tape to tape editing decks!)

Pics from a video story about how we bring nature inside for sustenance, pleasure & drama.

Living on land with the memory of others who have lived there - (video art @ Oamaru foreshore, August 1995).

Earlier that year, Pākaitore (Moutoa Gardens) in Whanganui was occupied by Te Ati Haunui a Paparangi Iwi, drawing attention to breaches of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Hard to believe this was 30 years ago! From art school, October 1994 in Oamaru.

Land & place carry history - to learn, I was able to view archaeology collection items used by Māori around Waitaki, at Otago Museum.

(First photo taken at Island Bay, Wellington, the rest are at Oamaru)

Denying help to the poor is rejection of God, Pope Leo says on Christmas Eve
"On Earth, there is no room for God if there is no room for the human person. To refuse one is to refuse the other," said the pope said, lamenting lack of care for children, the poor and immigrants.

Love this (successful development of ecosystems including insects in urban spaces). The new George St is a much nicer space than what it replaced.
Dunedin's inner-city greening project shows even small spaces can be wildlife havens
Even small green spaces can bring nature back into cities, as our project in Ōtepoti Dunedin has shown.

Massive ego - hard to believe that Coster would see this as helpful to anyone’s trust in police!
📢 In an interview with Q+A, the former police commissioner spoke for the first time since the damning IPCA report on the McSkimming scandal.
Exclusive: Coster claims Hipkins and Mitchell told about McSkimming

What a way to try and suppress critical thinking! People are smarter than this.
They are removing art history from the senior school curriculum. The 2 years of art history I did in the 90s are literally the knowledge I use the most in my everyday life, my career, & for joy.
