Our economy can't continue this way. Already our standard of living is crashing from generation to generation. The ground is eroding because only greater profits will sate the hunger of the financial sector.

"Angel investors" and VC firms are not trying to find the next big technology. They're trying to find the next big fantasy they can spin into an infinite money glitch. They're trying to extract value by sucking the marrow out of the bones of our economy.

The tech bubbles aren't about tech the same way the housing bubble wasn't about houses. It's the same people, same players, same tactics like "well what if we come up with an idea that's just marginally legal and call it a financial instrument."

We call it "late stage capitalism" because it is.

Now all those technologies are radioactive, moreso given that the financial sector has determine they've extracted the only value they ever had: a basis for hyping a stock.

Get ready for a decade of companies explaining that actually machine learning isn't really "AI," so they can salvage it ...

There were potential use cases for things like cryptocurrency, and the blockchain, and NFTs, and the "metaverse."

But they were small, and niche. They might have been a god-send to one particular industry or company, but they were never going to be cure-alls for every single aspect of our lives.

The story of the last decade of tech is the financial sector latching on to a nascent technology, hyping it into an investment technology, and then running away with the profits from stock inflation after they've destroyed the technology's reputation.

This is not a tech problem, per say.

The irony is if they could have taken things slower, legally, planned out a use case and clamped down on the problems with generative "AI," there might have been something useful here.

And then maybe in a decade they could have released it. Y'know. Like Bell Labs used to do.
