I watch movies, read comics, buy crap I don’t need and go to the pub but I have weekends off and I am my own boss.
This is really cheap for a Criterion 4K so OBVIOUSLY I’m thinking about buying it. The only problem is I’m pretty sure I’d hate the film or, at the very least, dread the idea of watching it so much that I’d just leave it on my shelf. I’ve heard it’s a masterpiece and also heard it’s boring shite.

It’s hard to make a terrible film from such fascinating material but the director is guilty of having a go a couple of times here. Way too long, some ridiculous subplots but Crowe is decent and the gripping subject matter just about saves it. Ok but extremely flawed.

Anderson’s first film without screenwriting partner Wilson (this time he’s joined by Noah Baumbach) and the results are a much looser, more ramshackle type of film. A tighter edit would help but it’s still a lot of fun and as beautifully shot and composed as you’d expect. Good but not essential.

I hated The Royal Tenenbaums when I first saw it on release but watching it now it’s hard to know what I was thinking. A film that reveals more with every viewing. Hackman is fantastic (as usual) and it’s funny and surprisingly moving. Another true original from Anderson. The 4K is gorgeous.

Anderson’s 2nd film is a huge step up in all departments. A stunningly original, hilarious story about first love and best friends. Everyone in it is perfectly cast (it’s probably Murray’s greatest performance) and it’s endlessly quotable. One of the best films of the 90s. The 4K is a stunner.

Anderson arrived fully formed with his sweet, funny, romantic debut. The Wilson brothers (all 3 of them!) are great and there’s a kind, decency to the characters (criminals that they are) that’s very refreshing. Much better than I remembered. The 4K picture quality is gorgeous.

Diving into The Wes Anderson Archive tonight and starting with his first film - Bottle Rocket. Hope to watch his entire filmography over the next couple of weeks.

Nah you’re ok thanks.

Sony are conducting a survey for physical media fans (USA only 🙁) to see what films they’d like released on 4K. Safe to say we can expect a few of these next year.

Still bizarre to me that they need to put warnings on Tom and Jerry cartoons that they may not be suitable for children.

Oh piss off.

This got fantastic reviews but didn’t work at all for me. An overlong, unfunny mess with horrible characters doing unbelievable things. I’ve liked some of the director’s previous films quite a bit but this was a serious misfire for me. Everyone seems to love it so I’m surprised how much I didn’t.

Watching this and within a few minutes my “this doesn’t look like America, this looks like Dublin” sense was tingling and sure enough.

I wasn’t crazy about the original Sisu but the sequel looks even dumber so I might be tempted into the pictures to see it.

Nice book for Rocky fans coming out early December from Taschen.

Good to see this getting a cinema release here on Dec 5th - all 281 minutes of it - 😳
Not a fan of part 2 at all but I’ll have to go because I’m weird like that.

Watching a half hour of this before I have to go out. From the opening titles to its scenes of academics discussing weighty issues it’s hard not to feel like I’m watching a serious Woody Allen film.

Had thrown this in the bin after 2 episodes but then put on episode 3 today and it was so dumb I might just keep on watching it.

Thought this was just ok. A patchwork quilt of a movie that cherry picks from several popular sci-fi movies (Avatar and Aliens amongst them) with mixed results. Some flat attempts at humour don’t help matters but it’s an easy enough fast moving watch.

Enjoying this but I can’t be the only one hoping Carol cheers the fuck up a bit soon. Intriguing premise aside, having your main character as an anti-social depressive is a tough sell.
