I observe that total moral degeneracy tends to have a corrosive effect on a political movement, if it has no genuine standards or principles then it will tend to get devoured by progressively more insane grifters

I’ve been called a “suburban wine mom” by too many white male leftist just for mentioning abortions rights. They need to prove solidarity their to me.

For some leftists, “workers” are always male, white, cis and straight. I’m sure this author would like to think if a worker were racist to his face solidarity would trump racism. Be the reality is he’s dumping solidarity just *hearing* about racism.

there is a certain condescension in the idea that “racism should be publicly unacceptable and come with consequences” is an attack on the “working class.”

But this one gets me

“Do you think it's right for doctors and nurses to only work for what they think is a living wage ?”

Yes? Is this an issue some how?

Are the biggest hospital chains the most expensive? Doesn’t seem likely. Most big hospital chains take Medicaid. Will that suddenly stop? If I can get affordable decent health care I don’t really give a rip if the rich go to fancy boutique hospitals.

Am I ok needing a referral from my GP to a specialist? Yes, that’s why I have a GP. They know me and my health issues. I don’t want to spend my time specialist shopping.

Wow, hard to imagine a world where rich people have access to the most expensive doctors and hospitals while the average person doesn't. Let's hope that Americans never have to worry about that happening.

At its core what people seem to struggle with is the fact that military occupation is in fact political and its violence is a daily pressure point that is a constant.

I just want Republicans, and the right generally, to be treated as real adults with agency instead of forces of nature that must be appeased or managed. Is that too much to ask?

Because it’s not about America or keeping us safe or immigrants or tradition.

It’s about the power to walk into a perfectly normal situation and warp it. It’s about being the one who decides who counts and who doesn’t. It’s about using cruelty to prove they are superior in every way.

As I drove away I realized I — as white, blonde and blue-eyed as I was — would eventually not be white enough for this man in the swastika arm band. That there would come a day when my genealogy going back to the Mayflower wouldn’t be American enough to save me.

It was only after he drove away that we all seemed to breathe again. Someone swore. Someone laughed nervously. We all finished our business and told each other to be careful.

Every stood stock still and watched as he paid. He was polite and soft spoken. He didn’t threaten anyone. But he held himself in a way that said “I *am* the threat. I belong here and you don’t.”

The rest of us glanced at each other, gauging reactions.

He left and walked back to his car.

It’s a joke.

But my body knew. Every nerve was on alert. Every muscle was tensed for fight or flight.

I finished pumping gas and headed in to pay. He finished and followed me in. I forced myself to walk and not dash into the store.

I walked in. He followed. All conversation stopped.

About 15 years later I was at a gas station, pumping gas. A car pulled up to the next pump and a young man in a Nazi officer uniform, complete with arm band, got out. He started pumping gas.

My brain tried to make it so many things. He’s an actor who got in costume at home. He’s a WWII reenactor.
