This account from someone a few blocks away really gets at the sudden escalation. This was a family outing to a park on a relatively warm Sunday afternoon — kids on bikes, the family meeting up with grandma. Now you have to explain tear gas and police brutality to your 8-year-old.

These folks doing rapid response have been very clear: they don’t need press showing up. They film everything themselves. Press make those spaces more difficult to navigate - vulnerable people getting documented, volatile agents getting upset because they have more people surrounding them.

US state department calls for the release of all detained healthcare workers as at least one arrested surgeon reported to be at risk of execution
Doctors are being arrested in Iran for helping save the lives of some of the tens of thousands injured during Iran’s brutal crackdown on anti-regime protests, with at least one surgeon now at risk of being sentenced to death.
The arrests and death sentence are part of a campaign of “revenge”, say human rights groups, after healthcare workers and doctors refused to ignore the plight of badly injured protesters shot or stabbed at close range, and in some cases set up makeshift treatment centres. Continue reading...
