I made this painting during that time when the only colors of casein paint I still had were some earth tones, green, and white

Despite not having any of my favorite colors, and zero primary colors, I kept painting within those restrictions

And ended up making some of my fav paintings #art

It is mostly a light cool green, but also gray, with some drips of gray paint within the form, and below it. The background is mostly brown and tan, and there is a vertical stripe of dark brown to the right side of the painting, going all the way from the top of the painting to the bottom. Overall the painting is somewhat low contrast, which makes it look more faded and weathered.

Sometimes I think of painting like a swordfighter with a blade, except mine is a 1" flat brush, and my opponent is something I love, so it's like a dance, not a fight

A large abstract casein painting with many vertical forms that resemble tattered strips of cloth, and also red currents of energy or abstract flames, plus a sword with the blade pointed downward, and vaguely, the side profile of a person's face, and just the hint of an eye, but the face is in shadow or smoke and mostly obscured. There are also five very pale abstract flower shapes near the center of the painting, arranged in a curve, like the letter U. Just to the right and behind the face is a vibrant bit of energy/flame. The background is dark gray with lots of medium gray swirling smoke or energy or abstract haze.

There is a light gray crescent moon in the upper left of the painting. The painting is very low saturation overall, much more than perhaps any other painting I've done this year.

You can see some of the strengths of casein in these progress photos:

-it can be used very thin with just water, like watercolors

-it dries to the touch quickly, but can be layered before it's cured, especially if you use a light touch

-cures in 1 to 3 weeks, so you can still blend it days later

A strange abstract casein painting with a fiery, smoky, vibrant orange haze in the upper part of the painting, that casts highlights of bright orange onto many other elements and areas. There are nine upright forms that resemble birdhouses, out-houses, or wooden planks with slanted "roofs" on top. Three of them are somewhat large, and are clustered on the left. Five of them are much smaller, and are clustered on the right, plus there is one more that is small, short, and appears to be leaning, nearly falling over, near the center of the painting. The moon is nowhere to be found.

A high contrast semi-abstract / surrealist casein painting, of a narrow canyon/valley, from the point of view of being in the canyon, looking toward the horizon. There are seven bright yellow-orange flowers in the canyon, the landscape is highlighted in the same bold color, and there is a low and small crescent moon also in this color. The flowers are huge, more like bushes than typical flowers, and they have no leaves at all (as is the case with almost every flower in my paintings).
