The title would go to the wire with the winner of the Rothwell vs Luton Reserves match taking the championship. Unfortunately the Reserves fell short and lost 8-0!

The paper of the time, Luton Reporter, did separate them into first team matches and Reserve team matches at the end of the season, which many years ago caused me a lot of confusion as I thought there must have been 2 separate United Leagues that season!

*We did actually have two games on the 8th September 1900 as well but the first team away match to Chatham in the Southern League was expunged after they withdrew from the league later in the season.

This did lead to two Luton games being played on the same day, later in the season*, as seen on the Hatters Heritage website. Luton played Southampton in the Southern League as the Reserves played Rothwell in the United League.

The United League was a first team competition but in the 1900-01 season two clubs, Finedon and Rothwell, were much weaker than the other clubs in the league. To level things up all the other teams would play their reserves against them. So the Luton reserves played in a Luton 1st team competition.

Just noticed they have the wrong day for the Bristol Rovers match, this is getting more annoying the more I look at it 😂

That must be a world record win 😂 It's actually annoying me though that they have got the Great Yarmouth result wrong!

The defeat brings to an end our 25 match unbeaten home record in League 1. The last home defeat at this level was 0-1 to Huddersfield in May 2008.

Luton 0-1 Cardiff. In a game where both teams should have scored 4 it was remarkable that only 1 was converted. Unfortunately it came to the visitors, any competent defending would have stopped it, but it wasn't a game for competent defending or for that matter clinical finishing.

To win the league after the start we had was incredible, after the first 8 matches our record was: P8 W2 D0 L6 F14 A23 Pts 4 and we were in last place. At the end of the season our record read: P38 W24 D6 L8 F100 A61 Pts 54 and we won the title by 3 points. Quite a turnaround!

I would love to see a NHL game live, that would be some experience.

Had Leeds shown an interest in him? He must have been a decent player to get offered an apprenticeship.
