Returning to VCF Midwest two years later on LGR!

And wow has it changed. It feels like an almost entirely different show! 66,000 square feet of vintage computers, retro hardware, software, and old school goodness of all kinds. Here's what the show was like (for me) in 2025!

#VCFMW was in full swing tonight with everyone setting up. Capped off the night playing some unreal tournament in a good ol’ fashioned LAN party. My machine decided it didn’t want to have windows explorer to run anymore, but progman and CMD made it work just fine. See everyone tomorrow. Now to sleep

I should probably post this *somewhere*
I will be at #VCFMW showcasing some extremely rare pieces of A/V tech. Zenith PhoneVision and a Sony PV-100 VTR. Look for table group G and I’ll be there!

Me being told by the developer that no, they will not accept my 60's blueprints, $75000 for an 8000 square foot plot is barely a tenth the value of the land and to leave the site immediately because I'm trespassing. (2025)

I have always had a strong appreciation of artwork, especially in tech with bespoke things such as Smart Cards. It's kinda neat to look at these designs and think about the thought processes behind it.

sad that the subminiature AC power plug never took off. the design was inherently safe since kids couldn't fit forks or scissors in

Taking it slow at the end here and making sure everything is correct. Cleaning and polishing the heads and replacing the felt pads and such. I’m also taking a page out of BandersonTV’s book and using ring terminals as cap lugs. Works great!

Going through some old paper tapes and found this. It's version 2 of Microsoft BASIC from 1975. Version 1 was never released to the public which makes this Microsoft's first commercial product and it's not been archived anywhere! Time to break out my tape reader... 🙂

Nearly at the end now. I have recapped all the PCB’s and am just waiting on the caps for the PSU I forgot. In the meantime I went to Ace and found out the hard way that Japan had a wild standard pre 1967. M3 .6 thread pitch!! So I had to chase the threads with a .5 to use modern screws. Worked
Great

someone reminded me that tomorrow is also this station's 100 year anniversary!
incredibly, there is still an *operational* Alexanderson transmitter! it is called SAQ Grimeton and they fire it up twice a year. in fact, if you want to listen to it yourself, they're going to operate it TOMORROW!

I built this LED audio visualizer back in 2014 as well, the FFT code needs some tweaking but its an 8 bit AVR powering it and I am using every ounce of that CPU power. I also need a case for it one of these days.
