#VCFPNW table registration has opened!
May 2-3 and the Tukwila Community Center

vcfpnw.org

We were all bummed when the show didn't return in 2020 because, you know, COVID and such...
BUT IT'S BACK! New venue, more space and lots of parking!
So what are you waiting for? Reserve your table now!

I blew up someone's brain today.
I explained the original name for an AMPS tower was a "cell site" and on a map it's area was depicted as a hexagon to represent the "cell" and you could see in his expression as 40 years of engineering logic suddenly connected neurons that were long left unconnected.

Just a heads up there is no video planned for Saturday as the first few weeks of the year I'm always in catch-up mode with housecleaning.

Uh, oh. I was left alone again.

Poor Adrian. 😂

I warned you, man! The Lisa has been the one computer I've worked on by a wide margin that would throw me the STUPIDEST of roadblocks in an attempt to _just not stay running._

If you have the space, means and collection: a northern Texas warehouse full of proto-Redbox VHS vending machines from the mid-1980s is being evicted. The machines are free and whatever isn't taken will imminently be scrapped.

I cannot believe just how massive VCF MidWest has gotten.
Room block registration opened almost two days ago and occupies something close to 75% of the hotel. At last look the block reservation was 90% full.
I really wish the best for everyone who is going this year because it's gonna be big!

Usagi's video today really hit close to home with the IV/90 I'm still trying to understand.

A second Maxell battery that has been sitting on my bench for years has now started to push the resin-capped end off.

Due to difficulty doing my work, I've decided to offer my time in exchange for pay. I can teach electronics theory, give open Q&A sessions, and help with others' projects. I need to move soon and cannot afford it, so I'm hoping a few people will hire me. Feel free to DM if interested. Price TBD.

Remember when I did my bedroom reno two years back and I strictly said that you should *never* do what I was doing and use generic corrugated foam panels for acoustic insulation because they pose a serious fire risk?

This is why. Only use foam that resists ignition.

I was going to be a bit more celebratory today with getting the last video of the year finished and stuff, then it got dropped on me pretty hard this morning that over the weekend we lost an icon in the world of tech reporting.

😔

Supposedly I have to get a video done and edited tonight and live by tomorrow.

I’m so excited! (O)_(o)

RE-PC's SoDo store has a bathroom with this cathedral sized awkwardness for one vase and a sink.
Y’all ever walk into a public restroom and immediately whisper “Jesus Christ”

My other Christmas present arrived. Spare parts videophone (I needed a replacement LCD/backlight assembly to repair another unit and this was the cheapest thing on eBay)

Come hell or high water, I'm going to VCF Montreal.

I'm just not going to book a *35 hour* flight to make it happen. x_X

Every year I'm guilty of buying my own Christmas presents, because nobody else knew of or where to find some obscure IBM retail computer from the early 90's to which seemingly does not exist on the internet until now.

IBM 4612 SurePoint Mobile computer. Yes, it's just a "Penabled" 486 DOS tablet.

I'm happy to hear that one of the channel's former sponsors has been able to work on and complete his childhood dream of archiving the ReBoot series. It's been fun hearing about his plan of action going back 15 years and here he is now with his name on this.
Well done Mark! 🎉

Woah so it really DOES exist! O_O
The last time I saw one of these I was researching the Optimus Maximus keyboard before it was released (that was 20 years ago??) and never saw it again but I swore it was not a fever dream.

For tomorrow's video, I've had people saying I'm talking too much from Wikipedia, so lets spend 25 minutes saying nothing at all and doing something you won't find on a website.
