You can predict where I’m going with this probably, but I watched Heated Rivalry and then wound up, like.. as one does, buying the ebook at 1am and finishing it at 7am. Then rewatched the two eps. I bought the sequel book too and am reading that. Just kinda wild! A little dam, you know?

Something else I can also say very early on is that there are author endnotes that are frustrating to read because they aren’t numbered like endnotes. There’s a sword icon instead, but if you flip to the end, they are in fact numbered. And I just wish it was straight up numbered endnotes.

I sent the cover and blurb to my gay roommate who I got into WoW when he saw a male night elf twirling on my screen and decided he wanted to play one. Later on, he’d be doing heroic raids outfits made to look like 8/8 devout gear, when he wasn’t healing pugs half naked for the challenge of it.

In later years, I leveled up my alts so much I don’t think you could necessarily tell who my main was. I was usually a warlock but I kitted out my druid, shaman, and priest too. I played a LOT. It’s a lot of memories to deal with and I’m literally on page 8. I really mean it, this book is for me.

The subculture reality of WoW is intense and opaque. I don’t blame anyone for not getting it when it wasn’t what you were living it in its heyday. I played around 2004-2010ish? My most active years until I went to law school. Deeply casual after that but I did play a few xpacs after.

Not a knock on the author by any means but I’m a few pages in (past the intro and glossary) and this already feels like maybe the opposite of the last book I talked about in terms of ease in recommending it. Queer wizard wangxian? Makes sense to most people I know tbh. But MMO jargon and culture…
