As a theatre director, I would assert it's about more than just the size of the screen. Sure, you can watch a film or even a play on your phone. But gathering with strangers to experience and consider a story together still has value and meaning.

This entire thread is spot on. Yes, us lecturers have to get creative, yes, the students are really struggling, yes, us teachers are struggling, and yes, we can still make a difference.
I have been reading all the "students these days" threads from various sides and I have an essay's worth of thoughts -- there's a lot of complexity and heterogeneity that is hard to communicate on social media. There are a couple of things I will say here though. 1/

Three chapters were bugging me, so I printed them out. Thought I might eviscerate them. But, in the end, they were better than I thought.
I read one romantic part to my kiddo. I knew I'd get an eye roll and "That's so cheesy!" if I did it well. Happy to report: kiddo delivered!
