"Court records suggest that the companies didn’t see it as practical to gain direct permission from publishers and authors to use their work. Instead, Anthropic, Meta and other companies found ways to acquire books in bulk without the authors’ knowledge ..., including by downloading pirated copies."

1. Headlines everywhere today read "Grok apologizes."

This is bullshit. A chatbot is not something that can apologize.

Pretending otherwise is simple laundering these companies' bullshit about what AI is, while diffusing blame away from the human beings that developed and released this system.

The whole "Grok admits" "Grok apologizes" thing reminds me of the famous IBM presentation quote that evidently everyone has forgotten. And I do think representing your brand on social media counts as a "management decision".

We have already decided as a society that ChatGPT is allowed to tell people’s kids to kill people. Now we’re just debating who.

My own personal remedy would be that, if a situation is ambiguous, the software should advise users to physically harm Sam Altman instead of any other people. Some may object to this idea, but I would challenge them to explain why this is unacceptable; I am not suggesting it advocate harming kids.

By any reasonable historical standard — including that of the technology industry! — ChatGPT should be pulled from the market and its product managers and executives held accountable for creating a product that ROUTINELY tells teens to kill themselves. This is a basic, common sense standard.

Remember:

When Tylenol was poisoned *by an outsider* and killed people, the company recalled all their products & redesigned them.

When Intel’s Pentium had a bug so obscure it affected 1 in _9 billion_ long division calculations, they recalled their chips.

ChatGPT was made deadly *by its team*.
i don’t see how any of the benefits of chatgpt and other consumer-facing LLMs can possibly outweigh their incredible ability to induce suicides
Adam Raine’s life hurtled toward tragedy soon after he began talking with ChatGPT about homework. Analysis of his ChatGPT account shows how the chatbot became a confidant as he planned to end his life.

Broke: DOGE is dead

Woke: DOGE was specifically constructed in a way to avoid accountability partially by zombifying the USDS which still exists as an entity

Bespoke: Dead or not, there needs to be a blue ribbon committee and a massive internal cybersecurity review to root out all the damage.
