The Cassini spacecraft snapped this view in an infrared filter to peer through Titan’s thick atmosphere and image its surface. Atmospheric features in this view: Titan's north polar hood is just visible in this view. Surface features: The darker areas are vast hydrocarbon sand dunes. You can see many other features including craters, maculae (dark spots), faculae (bright spots), and large ringed features. This image was taken by Cassini's camera system, the Imaging Science Subsystem (ISS) on April 4, 2016 and received on Earth April 5, 2016. 🔭 Dione and Rhea Ring Transit

Seen to the left of Saturn's banded planetary disk, small icy moons Dione and Rhea are caught passing in front of the gas giant's extensive ring system in this sharp telescopic snapshot. The remarkable image was recorded on November 20, when Saturn's rings were nearly edge-on when viewed from planet Earth. In fact, every 13 to 16 years the view from planet Earth aligns with Saturn's ring plane to produce a series of ring plane crossings. During a ring plane crossing, the interplanetary edge-on perspective makes the thin but otherwise bright rings seem to disappear. By November 23rd Saturn's rings will have reached a minimum angle for now, at their narrowest for viewing from planet Earth, but then start to widen again. Of course, Dione and Rhea orbit Saturn near the ring plane once every 2.7 and 4.5 days respectively, while the next series of Saturn ring plane crossings as seen from Earth will begin again in 2038.

The image of Comet ATLAS comes from the sigma-clipping combination of 15, 60-second unfiltered exposures, remotely taken with the Celestron C14+Paramount ME+SBIG ST-10XME robotic unit available as part of the Virtual Telescope Project in Manciano, Italy. To keep the highest detail, we shortened the exposure time and, looking at the results, we are happy with that choice.

Fui voluntaria de una ONG muy similar en Madrid, repartiendo bocatas por el centro. Necesitan esa pequeña ayuda, más por socializar con ellos, que por la comida en sí, que también.

Perseverance Encounters a Possible Meteorite

The suspicious rock, named "Phippsaksla" by the mission team, was targetted by the SuperCam instrument, revealing that it is high in iron and nickel, suggesting it formed elsewhere in the solar system.
