I love mint! Some peeps are dismissive of Pennyroyal flowers but I love the sprinkling of tiny white flowers. Always knew abortifacient reputation.

Water mint never had an attractive smell to me but perhaps that makes it all the more of the underworld!
Siobhan Ball introduces readers to the magical lore that surrounds mint and pennyroyal, a family of herbs associated with the goddesses and gods of the underworld, and offers up a refreshing mint, tomato, & coriander salad that’s perfect for a barbecue.

Blimey.
I had no idea this is what ZZ plants looked like under the soil. My hungry ass thought they were potatoes for a second.

Important to know if propagating sansevieria by leaf cuttings.

Here is a snake plant that I propagated in soil. It took months to root and a few months more to sprout new growth. When propagating snake plants from a cut leaf, the new growth does not share the same leaf colors & characteristics as the mother plant.

Black Henbane more common in Europe (AFAIK).

This wild Red Henbane, really attractive, edgy flowers.
Botanical sketch of hyoscyamus reticulatus (red henbane) from "Icones Plantarum Asiaticarum" by W. Griffith, 1854.

Second photo: wild red henbane, native to the Middle East / Western Asia.

Interesting guide to dark/"black" succulents. How to keep them dark - "stress" them with as much light as possible! But heat (summer) and overwatering will reduce darkness.

Important if you read academic papers whatever your interest or level.
Just a gentle reminder that museum and society journals continue to be excellent alternatives to the over-priced, high-profit academic journals and the pay-to-publish-anything predatory journals.
Full disclosure: I am an editor of a society journal.
The 5 stages of the ‘enshittification’ of academic publishing
Academic publishing now shows the same decline that has hit social media and online marketplaces.

Once Sansevieria now Dracaena. Plant taxonomists - the devils! 😄
Snake Plant (Dracaena trifasciata formerly Sansevieria) is also known as mother-in-law's tongue, Saint George's sword, and viper's bowstring hemp. It has sword-like foliage that is quite striking -

Nekhbet was the representation of the Upper Nile. Because of her, numerous goddesses and also all the queens of Egypt wore vulture crowns. Ninhersag of Mesopotamia was depicted with vultures. Studies suggest a vulture death goddess at Catalhoyuk. In Rome all vultures were thought to be female.
