The sources have since been found and here are some screenshots that demonstrate exactly how deeply ingrained genAI tech is with Mihoyo and its titles.
According to investment circles, in early 2022, miHoYo, along with Hillhouse Capital, IDG Capital, and Yunqi Capital, became angel investors in MiniMax. This made miHoYo one of MiniMax's earliest industry investors, strategically positioning itself on the eve of the large-scale model's explosive growth. This investment was no accident. Back in 2018, miHoYo established the Anti-Entropy Research Department, which focuses on the research and development of AI and metaverse-related technologies. At that time, miHoYo hoped to reduce the computing power and R&D costs of self-developed large models by investing in cutting-edge technologies. MiniMax's full-modal capabilities are highly compatible with the intelligent needs of games, which is conducive to accelerating the AI ​​transformation of games. In subsequent rounds of financing, miHoYo increased its investment, eventually holding approximately 7.34% of MiniMax's shares before its IPO. Simultaneously, Liu Wei also served as a non-executive director of MiniMax, participating in strategic decision-making. This goes beyond mere investment. Since 2023, miHoYo has become a MiniMax client, using its models in products such as Honkai Impact 3rd: Star Railway for character behavior control, NPC intelligent dialogue, 3D modeling optimization, and story generation, providing them with application scenarios for the game ecosystem. Turning to the prospectus, MiniMax separately lists two "leading senior independent investors"—in addition to IDG Capital, the other is miHoYo. Furthermore, last year, miHoYo's self-developed large model, developed by MiHoYo's Secret Technology, completed its filing. Focusing on the entire game production process, it supports AI voice acting, text generation, art optimization, code debugging, and more. It is reported to improve R&D efficiency by more than 30% and is the core foundation for the industrialization of game AI Cai Haoyu once stated bluntly that in the future, only top geniuses and AI will be able to make games. He believes that in the future, only two types of people will logically make sense in creating games. One type is the top 0.0001% of people, an elite team composed of the most insightful geniuses, who will create something unprecedented. For MiniMax and Soul, absorbing investment from miHoYo can help avoid some potential copyright risks associated with collecting training data. MiniMax, in particular, has already been involved in disputes with iQiyi and the three major Hollywood studios (Disney, Universal, and Warner) . For miHoYo itself, this investment tendency is also a judgment on future trends: the demand for virtual companionship and identity recognition among the lonely younger generation will continue to grow. Of course, the "ultimate immersive experience" may be the reason why miHoYo has been developing brain-computer interfaces so early. In 2018, the year after Genshin Impact was launched, miHoYo established " Anti-Entropy Studio " to be responsible for its AI virtual character "Luming" and brain-computer interface project. Three years later, its investment in Zero Unique Thinking and joint development with hospitals were a continuation of its existing ideas. Another part of the investment is more like enriching and improving miHoYo's existing ecosystem, such as improving the development efficiency of programming and art by investing in AI companies.
