This is a must-read for anyone in academia. While it focuses on administrative positions in certain parts, it's such an excellent resource with stats and critiques of all the indigenization/reconciliation rhetoric that it's got something for everyone. Highly recommend.

After an incredible 8 years of service, my Mr. Coffee mug warmer has reached the end of this long road we travelled together. She (yes, she is a Mister) saw me through grad school, through the gestation of child number 6, and an Associate Lecturership.

Election results for Edmonton Griesbach. The NDP incumbent has 31.34% of the vote, and the Liberal candidate has 19.02%. The Conservative jerkwad has 47.25%. Vote splitting by Liberals fucked us. Just a few polling stations left to report but the election has been called in the Conservative's favour.

Today I picked this book up, and I'm super pumped to read it. I honestly LOOOOVE work that focus on various dystopian scenarios and imagines life beyond - especially when the authors acknowledge previous apocalypses. I'm not sure how much Indigenous stuff is in here if at all yet, but I've got lots.
The books is titled Scatter, Adapt, and Remember: How Humans Will Survive a Mass Extinction, by Annalee Newitz. The cover features a planet's surface with large craters and a small house in the middle of the largest crater with smoke coming out of the chimney, and a small orange moon or other celestial body in the background.

Don't want to dunk on this person particularly but the way settler cultures who have historic beef over the right to colonize lands and peoples, will always side with one another during times of stress rather than ever acknowledge, identify with, or learn about Indigenous Peoples.
The post says, every time the United States insults Canada we get about three per cent more French. With the current rate we're going, we've probably got about eighteen months left before the average Canadian breakfast is two cigarettes hand-rolled on the hardcover of a Bescherelle.

So um yeah. Remember when MAGA invented "Trump Derangement Syndrome" to refer to folks who spoke out against Trump? Republicans just introduced a bill in the Minnesota Legislature to add this "syndrome" to the definition of mental illness.

I appreciate the spice boxes soooooo much.

We use a lot of spices in this family, we have two cabinets full of stuff and do a lot of mixing ourselves but these are next level and make things so much faster to prepare.
Shan brand chicken tikka seasoning mix. The box features two mouth-wateringly roasted chicken tights atop a bed of sliced onions. There is a recipe on the back of the box, requiring only the juice from one lemon and 2 tablespoons of plain yogurt for the marinade. This mix is a huge time saver and only one of many spice mix options.

It's amazing to watch people calling Eve Tuck a Zionist for a statement she made condemning Hamas in 2023 at a time when you wouldn't even be able to get a word in edgewise in support of Palestine if you didn't first say, yeah violence is bad, including that.

The article begins: New York University has hired notorious Israel-hater to lead a new venture dedicated to Indigenous studies, sparking outrage from top leaders at the school, and name Eve Tuck. The NY Post article goes on to quote Tuck as defending Hamas' deadly rampage, quoting her saying, "Unprovoked is dishonest framing. A free Palestine is possible because of how Palestinians have worked to keep alive and remake other framing, other futures." The article continues: Days later as Israelis were still counting their dead, she called Hamas' resistance to Israel affirming. On October 26th Tuck signed a letter blaming Israel for Hamas' butchery.

This is the same sort of smug attitude that's gotten us to this point. Nothing is guaranteed or protected. It has to be fought for every generation. The Charter doesn't mean shit if the gov't decides it has a mandate to do whatever it wants. Appalling lack of sense here.
I posted, "So, is any Canadian party platforming on protecting trans rights, access to abortion, public health and education spending, the environment, etc? Or are they all just taking the easy fascist route?" To which @hatakekinume@bsky.social replied, "All those things are covered by the Charter so it shouldn't need to be re litigated in politics. Only the cons would be so dumb as to insist they will do something about them. And eduction and health is mostly provincial anyway."

The response from this person to that post is, "Curious how I will get my insulin and supplies in such a scenario? Who cares about a diabetic anyway, right?" Then they have a bunch of other responses from folks basically projecting genocidal ideation on Indigenous sovereignty.

Ah. Now I get it. They either (or both, it can also be both) believe that we are too primitive and undeveloped to "do better" than current systems, or (and?) they've bought into the notion that colonialism completely undermined our capacity to do so.
The poster followed up, in response only to a white settler man, "I just completely lack your faith that the kind of transition they are advocating for can be accomplished without many many people dying."
