Good on Penn Jillette. Having to come to terms with your entire political identity and philosophy being wrong is not easy and most people could never do it.

I’ve heard it suggested that the Santa presents should be the boring and small ones (clothes and stocking stuff, for example), so that the nicer and fun things are associated to people.
We had the boys pick out toys that could go to Toys For Tots, explaining that some kids weren’t as lucky as they were at Christmas, etc. Then the eight year-old hit me with the ol’ “well, isn’t Santa going to bring them toys?” and, man, Santa is definitely hard to reconcile with a sense of charity.

I somehow always assume Crumb died long ago, predeceasing Pekar.
Crumb somehow manages to surpass S. Clay Wilson, Warren Ellis, and Frank Miller for “genuinely loathsome people whose comics work I’ll grudgingly defend the merits of.”

This is highly recommended, especially if you can get El to invite you to her table for the nicest Thanksgiving you’ve had in years.
This is just legitimately hard, especially if you have other dishes that want the oven, as most people do. I handle it by doing the turkey in the smoker and timing all my other dishes to it. Try this approach.

Huh. Fully half of the roller coasters at Dorney Park do not have your feet on the floor, by being inverted or floorless. (And if you discount the kiddie coaster, it’s more with dangling feet than not.)
