The internet contains multitudes, & no one has truly plumbed all of its great depths.

Ummmm….? I admit that the only things I know about colored bandannas are basic facts about their existence (are they cotton, what color & pattern, etc.). Didn’t know they had aymbolic meanings.

Find a few authors that write those scenes well & analyze what they do regularly. For example, I love Courtney Milan‘s sex scenes for always helping advance the plot. Tessa Dare is good at writing steamy scenes. Etc. Break them down & see what makes those scenes work.

The romance author Tessa Dare explained once on social media that she has TINY hands & so a dude could be totally normal-sized & she’d still have trouble getting a grip, so to speak.

I will add that despite all the near misses, everything turned out great & I remain eternally grateful to my friend who didn’t even celebrate this holiday but put in so much work to make it a good day when I was feeling awful. But that day still makes me laugh. /fin

I told her carelessly that the tablespoon was “the big measure”. She told me she wasn’t sure there was enough cornstarch. I looked over to see her trying to put a CUP in the pie. That would have been…. exciting. 10/

Another pie required 1 T of cornstarch to thicken it up a bit. I’d brought measuring cups with teaspoon/tablespoon measuring spoons at the end of the handle to reduce how much I had to pack when I moved there. My friend asked how much cornstarch we needed. 9/

The recipe called for a TABLESPOON of salt. Which we started putting in, but thankfully - thankfully! - stopped halfway. 1/5 a T was still too much but within the realm of normal seasoning. 1 T would have been awful. 8/ (messed up my numbers, but going with it)

Partway through the friend who’d insisted that there be pumpkin pie came into the kitchen, looked at us, looked at the squash, & said, “Well, aren’t you going to cook it first?” Biggest lightbulb ever. It must first be roasted! Problem sorted! 7/

So the two of us sit down with the local dessert squash we’d found. We both considered what we knew of baked goods with squash in them. (Existed in this country but very different from the US versions.) we considered the squash. Something wasn’t right. 5/

This was back before internet recipes were a whole thing, & it took a long time to find a recipe whose main ingredients were not a can of pumpkin (not sold in this country) & some pumpkin pie spice (same). The recipe I finally found was… imperfect. 4/

How she’d come to such strong feelings on this after only 1 or 2 Thanskgivings before remains a mystery. But a pumpkin pie was apparently a must-have. 3/

One of my local friends, who’d never had a T meal before because it’s not a Thing in their country, offered to cook it for me & I could “supervise”. Super generous of her. Another local friend insisted that we HAD to have a pumpkin pie because “it’s not Thanksgiving w/o one.” 2/

Several years ago I lived overseas for a few years, so for those of us from the US, Thanksgiving got to be a big deal because we were so far from home. I was so excited to be hosting & doing most of the cooking… until I had emergency surgery 1 week before T Day. 1/

One common sweet potato recipe is to mash up the sweet potatoes, mix them with your preferred ingredients (butter, sugar, nuts, whatever), & then top them with marshmallows. They cook & brown nicely in the oven. Depends on personal taste whether it makes them too sweet or not, though.

I don’t like stuffing at all so I’ll definitely trade you that for some of your pie. (I don’t generally at ham, either, but I don’t dislike it as solidly as I dislike stuffing.)

I’m so very, very sorry. There just aren’t any words.

I loved the Dark is Rising series when I was younger, but when I got older the fact that the main character decided to mind wipe his family every time they found out about his powers & tell himself they just couldn’t understand ruined it for me. Give them more than 5 min. Maybe they‘ll surprise you!

Just yesterday I was offered a cool thing for free by my church that I refused to accept because I knew the second it entered my home it would become a Sentimental Item that could never leave.

This is also why I HATED the children’s book trope for awhile that the characters would forget everything when they came back to “real life”. They just had this amazing adventure, grew & changed, met new friends, etc., & now that was all a waste? WHY???

That absolutely makes sense.

This is good to know. My entire previous Roblox “experience“ was hearing about it from a kid I knew (now a young adult) who had a good experience there. I had vaguely positive vibes from him but sounds like they were 0% merited & he just got lucky.

Yup, I support the boycott and am personally going further by not buying anything during those days that isn’t from a small business. But I recognize that that might be too much of a stretch goal.
