Resident of Birmingham, UK; parent of two; works in offshore wind project management; was once a scientist - still has faith in experts. Supports liberal, interventionist government.
It’s worse than that - she knows “the chancellor is trying to use the head of the OBR as a shield” is not true. So she is *lying*. She is lying to try and keep the story on her narrative that Reeves lied. Top level irony. Top level scumbag action.
The OBR is run independently from Government. It literally was somebody else's fault.

You'd think Kemi Badenoch would know that given her own party created it in Government, but apparently not

This will annoy the right wing - the Sun are already upset at this. I don't care.

This lifts 450,000 children out of poverty.

If you think that's a bad thing, if you think that children should suffer, then take a long hard look at yourself.

On Truss & Kwarteng in ‘22. Allister Heath, Telegraph: “the best budget I have ever heard a British chancellor deliver". Alex Brummer, Mail: “a genuine Tory package elbowing to one side the Treasury's fiscal conservatism".
These men will now be paid actual money for their analysis of today’s budget.

I hate all the lazy comments about lifting the two child benefit cap being about Labour backbenchers. It is not. It is about child poverty. And if you think it a fair or reasonable policy you are a cruel and inhumane person.
The scrapping of the two-child limit is a much-needed change to turn the tide on child poverty.

It is also the most cost-effective way of lifting children out of poverty.

Fixed it for you. Idiots! If the exclusion is based on appearance then it will certainly impact cis folks as well as trans folks.

What on earth is this nonsense from a Blue Labour MP?

What, you want a policy targeting zero illness, no full time caring responsibilities, no skills mismatches or career breaks and you think we should heavily crack down on migration until we get there?

Just not serious policy/politics.

I wonder if any of the people who (incorrectly) jumped to assume the train knife attacker was a Muslim / immigrant will be equally quick to note the Arabic name of the train guard who heroic put his life on the line… no of course not.

C**ts. Mess up your own country, but f**k off messing with a hugely important (symbolic) climate initiative.

Jenrick and Badenoch this week seem to have really leant into the mission of making the Conservatives completely unelectable 👏😅🙌

Handsworth’s ethnic mix is 25% Pakistani, 23% Indian, 10% Bangladeshi, 9% white, 8% black Caribbean, 8% Black African (and some other groups) - that is incredibly diverse (culture, religion, etc). So Jenrick *must* be meaning a shortage of white people when he says there’s insufficient diversity.

Wow. In most places having worked for a UN Agency would be a positive. In the current USA it is a reason to overturn a green card…

Carol Ann Duffy has a new poem that is pretty powerful (imo) on the hypocrisy that is playing out in the UK with Trump’s visit.

While some in the UK obsesses about immigrants attacking women/changing our culture, a 20 year old Sikh woman in the UK was raped by 2 white men and told “You don’t belong in this country, get out.” The horrific truth of some of our “defenders”. 🤬

The Right (media and politicians) are really gunning for renewables, following Trump. Just to state some basic facts (disputed only by uniformed or unhinged):
- new solar and wind generation is MUCH cheaper than new gas generation (for UK)
- screwing the climate and costing more is CRAZY

Oh the have the legacy of Andrew Wakefield. 26 years since his fraud ignited the anti-vax movement. How different the world might be if he had used his astonishing powers of influence to convince people of the health risk of GHG emissions, or maybe poor diet, or any real threat…
