Messing around building out homebrew network.

Setup 3 regional edge epyc servers (sg, de, and us) today with tailscale private network and cloudflare tunnels for exposing services to internet.

Leaning heavily on Claude code skills for setup.

Chrome now comes with the built-in AI model Gemini Nano 🧠.

⬇️ But when is the model downloaded?
🆕 How do updates work?
🗑️ Does the model ever get purged?

All these questions are covered in my new article "Understand built-in model management in Chrome"!

yeah that’s where I’ve netted out too. Sign/encrypt all data with a user-controlled key and then use boring servers as replicas/relays.

@tangled.org is such a great role model for projects in this moment

- actually does the thing: useful, accessible
- innovates/differentiates at *product* level: stacked review
- hybrid at proto layer (git and AT), pulls in bsky profile data
- built in europe by small amitious team

Musk always planned to turn X into the super app but Apple stood in the way.

When Musk got pally with Trump I hoped this would result in Apple being forced to open up more by regulators.

Musk would get his way but in the process we would end up with Apple loosening their grip on iOS.

The PDS paradigm won't move your data from the cloud to your personal computer. Most people will still rely on an institutional cloud service, but instead of data-banking with a maligned corporation most people’s data can be entrusted to the equivalent of member-owned credit unions for data storage.

Much thanks and heartfelt support to @erlend.sh for writing up the kind of article that I, too, have been dreading to have to write: that absolutist OSS is bad and we protect the commons with fair licensing, non-commercial and otherwise
Anti-fascistic software is made possible by pro-labor licensing.

I've been trying to write this piece for years. Every time I get started I'm just overwhelmed with paralyzing visions of the FOSS commentariat accusing me of WrongThink.

But I'm tired and we urgently need to get our shit together.
Open Source Power
We have to talk about open source licensing.
