It's difficult for me to express in words just how frustrating it is when Microsoft, Google, AND Apple try (constantly) to force me to save online (onto THEIR cloud) instead of locally, removing my options. I literally HATE it. Stop taking away my choices.

Like if you agree.

Every once in a while I like to test ChatGPT's knowledge. You know, just to see how well it's keeping up with updates in the field and how correct and trustworthy its information is. (Spoiler: it's not.)

Despite sounding VERY confident and like it "knows" what it's saying, it turns out it doesn't.

They put all the emphasis on how much time they save and ignore how exhausting it is to be permanently working with code that looks perfect but can't be trusted at all.

i rely on llms daily but using them well requires constantly staying in an extremely unnatural mind state, constantly adversarial. i’m not sure this scales very well and i hope we’ll figure out something more sustainable

like people who build frameworks. will they talk about how that's done anymore? it seems like so much of the audience has settled for quasi-religious sama style presentations. so it's actually easier to market developer products that way, just magic

When you’re done pointing and laughing, you might like to know that this was written by someone who doesn’t speak English as a first language. Awan is from Nepal.

I’ve seen this happen in other communities, where people accuse non-English speakers of being ”AI”.

Oh actually it _used_ to be Apache 2.0 (so I wasn't crazy) and they used to accept sponsorships but.. then they amended the license to squash a marketplace copycat and removed the sources a while later? This sucks. web.archive.org/web/20241003...
License Change from standard Apache 2.0 license · jgraph/drawio · Discussion #4623
From today the license applied to the project will be the Apache 2.0 license with an extra line forbidding usage of the codebase as an integration or app to Atlassian's Confluence or Jira products....

Hey so does anyone know what the mac/windows setting is for making clickable divs keyboard-accessible?

The dissenting voice of accessibility says operating systems do it best. And that greedy consultants are the real reason websites don’t work for disabled people.

Sorry, “accessible-needs users.”

Any place I’ve seen go hard on OOP is usually trading a *lot* of developer experience for (the appearance) of uniformity and control. It’s the “you will write code this way because our codebase forces you to” rather than “because it solves the problem best”.
I dislike OOP ceremony.
It's unnecessary, it's a dated approach, and it misses the forest for the trees, while introducing nothing useful, and making apps more difficult to work with.

Everyone's always asking me why I dislike #Java and modern #php, but love #python. That's why.

All Al generated imagery is inherently theft. It's unethical, environmentally disastrous, and does irreparable harm to both artists and society.
