I live in Boston, so I _should_ be supporting the Pats. But this makes it difficult.
The guy on the right is New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, photographed at the Kennedy Center premiere of “Melania.” #GoSeahawks!

Shout out to Ed Boon, programmer extraordinaire! A pinball machine is like a space probe, sent alone into an unknown, potentially hostile environment, and required to do its own error recovery. Ed's work on BK2K made it possible for me to still score a jackpot with 3 targets non-functional!

Feb 1 is the deadline for "excessing" oneself from your current school for reassignment. But it develops that BPS budget cuts will be eliminating 200-300 positions, so I won't be pulling the ripcord into the unknown, frustrating as this job is.

Interesting thoughts on extremism, from an MIT press author. Why was ICE so vicious towards Good and Pretti? Perhaps because both victims were White, but had rejected the extremist ideology, thus becoming “race traitors” who needed to be destroyed and be made an example of.
“If the extremists can’t persuade the ineligible in-group to surrender,” explains @jmberger.com, “they will seek to intimidate and perhaps kill its members.”
Anatomy of Extremism: What ICE Is Revealing in Minnesota
The federal persecution of immigrants and white citizens alike lays bare the unstable logic of in-group power.

We have two movies we watch while snowbound: The Thing (1982) and Krampus (2015). But there MUST be others! In particular, Agatha Christie locked-room mysteries must have inspired movies!! Anybody got ideas for movies about people trapped by snow ... to be watched by people trapped by snow?

Looks like the storm is already impacting supply chains. 8:00 a.m. and Market Basket hasn't gotten new stocks of dairy products or fruit yet.

Finally watched "Everything Everywhere All at Once". Yes, great performances. But how did it wrangle "Best Picture" ?

Sunrise is late enough now that I can get a lovely view of it on my commute in. (Framing is awkward because I didn't want to photograph my fellow riders)

Spot check of yesterday's classwork. In her group, "Hermione" was the only one who really did the assignment, and the others copied off her. For today's quiz, she gets version 1, and Ron, Harry and George get version 2. Let's see if they even notice. (Evil grin)

Friendly reminder that many autistic and otherwise neurodivergent people overexplain to avoid miscommunication because we've learned the hard way that if there _is_ one, we'll probably be the one blamed for it. 😬
