How's the mobile CPU landscape evolving? Thanks to process node improvements, a mid-range Android from 2025 is (finally!) as fast as 2017's iPhone 8, but a low-end (~$100) smartphone isn't yet as speedy as a decade-old iPhone 6s.

SS7 is gonna remain a dumpster fire security threat and China will continue to exploit it if we can’t even have simple cybersecurity requirements for the telecom industry.
Breaking: The FCC has voted 2-1 along party lines to eliminate cybersecurity requirements for telecom companies that the commission adopted at the end of the Biden administration.

Telecoms had lobbied for the change. Democrats said it would invite another Salt Typhoon.

Story coming shortly.

Both are great threads on Google sacrificing its ad business (and the commercial underpinnings of online media) to push AI
This is, of course, a fascinating thread from Kate asking why Google is effectively cannibalizing its own market for both digital ads on third party properties and search ads, by effectively taking away the incentive to click through to third party sites. I have a theory as to why they're doing it.
So this ad revenue metric is indicative of such a fascinating and weird set of business decisions by Google to inexplicably kill of SEO-- and I honestly don't get how they think this is going to pay off for them in the long run.

I've always admired @albertocairo.com's work and I'm delighted to see this project to track and visualize news coverage that impacts trans communities.

It's important to see the big picture! And I hope it leads to much more support for trans journalists and fair coverage.
My new big visualization project is out: The Trans News Initiative, a collaboration between UM's School of Communication, the Trans Journalists Association, and Polygraph (The Pudding): transnewsinitiative.org Here's a piece about it in the Columbia Journalism Review: www.cjr.org/news/visuali...

Deep breath, once more for those at the back, seeking asylum is not illegal. No matter route used, which considering Labour has closed pretty much all the last remaining alternatives means irregular ones.

The first talk of the day at #ffconf highlighted the still-abysmal gender and ethnicity disparity in the tech industry. As long as data is compiled and processed by a non-diverse group, we can't train models and build products that could ever be anything but biased.
