Letting the ACA subsidies expire is the closest they have gotten to "repeal" and they're just now realizing that if they don't paper over that with some half assed "replace" bill, then they're going to get blamed for millions being priced out of insurance.

They are too lazy/incompetent to do them. So instead they’re trying to force the power of the rest of our government by brute force to just give in and let them do what they want.

This was always the next step. Their case is weak af now and will be with this next step too. There are limited options for them to legally intact tariffs but they require doing very detailed analysis and trade with a country fitting certain facts.

The GOP framed this as using the government to attack GOP organizations and the media ran with that lie.

Now the GOP is doing exactly what they falsely accused the Obama admin of doing bc the GOP is a master in projection.

Under Obama, the IRS used search terms to identify fraudulent non-profits being set up during the Tea Party period. These terms covered both left and right wing targets and identified hundreds of grifty organizations that were shut down.

Step 1: Label your political rivals as "domestic extremists"
Step 2: Demand the IRS and DOJ investigate "domestic extremist" organizations
Step 3: Feed scandalous headlines to a friendly media outlet (there are plenty) about "tax shelters funding extremist organizations"

Retreating isn't a helpless activity. It's not the same as surrendering. It's not the same as being grievously wounded or being otherwise protected.

You're under no legal or moral obligation to let someone who didn't give themselves up come back and kill you later, because it looks dishonorable.
