My dislike of modern Christmas songs isn't because they are insincere. Most of them are insincere. It is because I no longer associate great memories of the holidays with them. I hear Justin B pretending profound understanding of the season and think he's just cashing a check. But then, who wasn't?

I went to the desert. I shut off the noise. I talked to the past. I listened to the world that didn't shout at me or try to tell me how awful shit is. And it was GLORIOUS. Absolute bliss. Disconnect for a while. Recharge. Listen to the real world, not the glass teat. The teat leaks sour milk.

Why do we have to take a side in a rivalry to spend billions? It isn't enough that Paramount may gobble up one of its historic studio rivals OR a newcomer might beat them to it? It's currency at war: more than your entire genetic line has likely ever earned since they started trading meat for skins.

I enjoy that news outlets and pundits are picking up the phrases "political kayfabe" and "media kayfabe" to represent the postured, theatrical rhetoric designed for promotion rather than discourse. I hope it gets traction and becomes an epithet for lazy, cowardly governing AND reporting.

Social media has been around long enough now that I've watched my high school alumni group move from reporting weddings and career accomplishments to legacy student graduations and obituaries. It is a fascinating phenomenon.
