The left needs to take some accountability for allowing rwers to leverage made up fears. We coddled them with their legit fears but all they took from that was how to use power over us. Just say no.
I want to call this phenomenon "The Deneen Effect", i.e. it's a phenomenon where you ask someone with a bigoted, extremist ideology to be concrete about what they are trying to save or restore in American culture, and they are totally incapable of giving an answer that has any substance at all.

All I know is that today AI can’t replace what I do. Ppl try really hard and then end up having to pay me to fix what their AI did. I tell all of these people that this is going to happen but they want to try and that’s ok.

Different neighbor keeps fishing for conversation about his cyber truck and I had avoided it until today. I thought I was safe talking about a flight I have to take and he launched right into how he would rather take his truck with the “latest and greatest” self driving tech. He got me good.

Nah you don’t have to do that. You can say it could be true at a later date but you should look at what it is and does right now.
I understand why people are exhausted by AI hype, and why those of us squarely in the corner of "human dignity uber alles" see AI doomerism as self-serving hype, but I *really* think people on the left broadly need to start thinking seriously about the possibiltiy of the hype being...true.
