The main reason we're in this situation is a bunch of war criminal shitbags from the Reagan administration paved the way for fascism.

And the best thing you can do is ask the grunts not to follow illegal orders. What about your part of the bargain?

Here's some analysis of how much we're subsidizing the private golf courses. The course + country club homes are *combined* valued at less than half of the surrounding land in the neighborhood.

The assessed value of Broadmoor & Sandpoint Golf Courses has been <$1/sq ft since 1983 even while Seattle property has increased 2000-2400%. KCAssessor claimed value of private courses was transferred to the CC homes. It's not. We need to eminent domain the courses @councilmember-amr.bsky.social

And your property taxes would be like, what, $100/year

No, I’m assuming that they *will* relocate their growth, period.

You are assuming that “giving a seat at the table” will stop or slow that in any way shape or form through “goodwill” / “relationships” vibes.

I’m saying the only way stop it is regulating them more & closing arbitration loopholes.

It’s delusional to think about megacaps as human relations and building goodwill. Micro caps *maybe*.

Don’t want 12K people to move? Don’t grovel, innovate regulations that disincentize the moving. Be adversarial and innovative, because they are. Or grovel your way to the bottom.

The whole point is as soon as it pencils for their bottom line to commute 12K people they will, regardless of admin and appearance politics.

Then they will predictably blame regulation and taxes.

The expect simps to write the FOMO if-only thinkpieces. Then rinse and repeat hostage situation.

This is to say: this golf course could be housing 13000-25000 people, AND generating $20-30 million / year in taxes, the entire size of the Dept of Neighborhoods, or >25% of the Seattle Public Schools deficit.

Instead it’s paying $85,770 in taxes and housing no one.

Assessments consider land and "improvements" (the structures) separately.

The land only (no improvements) of a parcel near me is assessed at $11,000,000\acre.

At that value, this golf course would pay over 12 mil in taxes.
